Have any of you come up with a stable mounting idea for a video camcorder for your midyear?

After considering the problem, I'm beginning to think that a short tripod, adjusted for head height just behind and between the seats would give me a good shooting position. I'd remove the inside rear-view mirror for shooting sessions. ;)

Then, it would be a matter of coming up with a means of securing the tripod to a few locations to keep it steady. Maybe to the hockey-stick screw locations (seat sides) and to aft positions to the left and right.

Other ideas????

:confused

That looks like it would fit alomost any dash and be stable with the support to the glass.

Thanks, Bob. :thumb This looks like a great product at a reasonable price. I watched a video on his site that demonstrates his new "pan" accessory too. Good stuff.

My only hesitation is related to the shape of the midyear dash with the exaggerated height difference between the centre and both sides. I think I'll order a couple of 3" extension legs with the dash cam kit in case one or two of the legs are left hanging in mid-air.

I think the legs will do it for you. With the tilt head it doesn't appear that the plate needs to sit level and you should have the ability to position the camera any way you want it.

Bob,

I sent the seller a message with that photo, so we'll see his response. When it comes, I think I'll spray the aluminum plate black to blend in with the dash............stealth mode. :rotfl

Bob,

I sent the seller a message....

Well, that didn't take long. :D

Hi Bob,

The triangle base is only 8-1/2 X 9-1/2 inches and it looks to me that you have enough room. The dash cam unit provides you with 2 extensions to help get the suction cup up to the windshield.

I think you're good to go based on that pic. I also provide an unconditional return policy. If you don't like it or can't use it, just return it for a refund.

Many thanks,

My take on your idea would be to Fab a bracket that would bolt into the holes where the rear view mirror goes using wing nuts and all thread. The bracket would be shapped at right angles to go around the body of the Cam Corder to connect to the thread in mount.

You could mod this idea and find some sort of swivel adapter to fit at the bottom for pan and tilt.

Or....find a manufactured bracket that you could invert and adapt to the rear view mirror posistion. I like the idea you had of hanging down from the top...not setting up on the speaker grill or dash pad.

Take some pics in place and let us know what you think.

I will, Bob. And thanks for the link. I think this is exactly what I was looking for. Three-point contact with the car. And, the advantage of a universal fit is that I can mount it on the dash of my Z71 Tahoe and go ice-racing. ;LOL

Mark, I'm not sure I'd trust those other examples (the links) as they appear to be a one suction mount. When these BBC's get honkin' that camera's gonna be flyin', if it doesn't have a sturdy grab on more than one place. ;)

Some of those suction mounts hold 10 Lbs or more... I have a Garmin Nuvi 760 "GPS Unit" that comes with a suction mount. Once that sucker is snapped onto a clean windshield...There's no way you can pull it off. And that one is only about 3'' in diameter. The Garmin Unit is heavy and my 65 Bounces pretty hard also . Heavy Duty Sway bars and stiff shocks..I have yet to lose the Garmin.

You can see the first mount pictured has a suction cup...and look at all the extra weight it has to hold besides the camera.

Them Suckers really Suck Hard.....:D

Suck is the best way to go less all that other gack pictured.:D

Yeah, but the feetsies are resting on the dash for additional support.

You ever purchase this setup Bob?

Thanks for reminding me, Bob. When I tried to use his toll-free to order, it was no longer in service. So, I decided to wait a month or so to see if he was still in business. Then, I got so busy with other things that I forgot.

Anyway, it looks like he is still in business. He just decided to cut back on the toll-free. So, I ordered one today. I'll have it soon.

Cheers.

Not to HiJack the thread... But I am Impressed with your New Avatar...

I Also Believe.......:beer
