mild disapointment

It was a "buyer's" market most definitely. I was surprised that the purchaser didn't have more competition during the bidding. More power to the guy-- he's a wise man. Yes, he did spend a boat load of dough-- but at the same time he just made over $100k by being able to sell these cars on the open market for much more than he just paid. Daaayyuummm

Yea, Im with Eric....I plan on picking up the Sledge next year :D :D

I saw your fearless COG leader throwing his hand up on the C7-R. I'm sure he'll have plenty to tell when he gets back. - Eric:w

Maybe its just me but I think this years auction isnt bringing the $ like it has in the past.It might be me or Im just finally getting used to the big numbers.

The interesting thing about this years auction is that the customized and modified cars were bringing much higher $$$ than factory original correct restored cars. There were a number of modified cars, like the hemi truck or the Nomad station wagon or the Zephyr street rod, that sold for six figures... normal open market value on those cars would have been $50k!! :eek

Callaway cars are an enigma in the car world. We are a fortunate few who understand the value and awesome engineering that went into these cars. Honestly thats fine with me. I like to be different that the rest of the crowd, and Im a little greedy. If all the Callaway cars were owned by a few that would be fine with me.

Surf, he mentioned he won't be selling... He has another Callaway Corvette, a 100+ car from 91 that he has owned for 12 or 13 years :eek

I must say, I am very fortunate to have ridden in it at least once - a dream come true :)

Hmmmm. Whats up with all my cars selling this year? First 89-010 now the Sledgehammer??? Whats my next Callaway going to be? :D :D :L

Like all opportunities, timing is everything. Eric is right on the money with his assesment. I too was surprised as I through the Sledge, C7R, and SuperSpeedster were worth about double of what they sold for. As the ecomony picks up there would be more bidders and this guy knew this so he picked them all up. No matter what, this guy was determined to walk away with them all and even if the bidding had gone much higher he was going to get them. He was also bidding and buying other cars there besides the Callaways so he definitely has the means and the knowledge of what he was doing.

Best wishes to him and I hope he has as much fun with them as I had seeing them sell up close and personal.
