I wanted to get some more power out of my '85 and I heard that the choking point is at the top. I have heard about he mini ram from TPIS, but does anyone have one on their vette?

Is it worth $1200 for the mini ram and a new fuel rail?

What else do I need to replace besides that?

Any extras that I don't know or will it bolt straight on to the engine?

Thanks for you help.

I think it really depends on what you're looking for ultimately, and how much you want to spend. There are lots of different ways to go. From what I recall reading the intake withoout a cam is not gonna get you a heck of a lot.

Post a little more about the things I mentioned and you'll get plenty of help. Oh ya, and if you're not impatient you can find a lot of stuff in good used condition for signifiantly less than retail. Good luck and Welcome to :CAC

There are always things to consider before picking an intake manifold.

You have to have a goal of power gain, you need to keep in mind the transmission type, and rear gears, and the characteristics of each intake.

MR is better for a manual tranny, with sufficiently low rear gearing. It will tend to make its power in mid-range and high rpm, so you must upgrade valvetrain parts when you install it.

Superram is better for an automatic tranny, basically it has the same characteristics as the L98s TPI does, without the falloff at high rpm. It'll make good power til 6000-6500, depending on cam choice. It doesnt require more rear gearing like the MR likes.

I do not think the MiniRam is carb legal to use in Cali for emission compliance.

With that said, on a stock L98 I would not install a miniram. I hate to say it, but if the intake was the only thing I was going to change, then i'de put on the pain in the ass to install Accel SuperRam.

thats right, MR does not have a CARB #, although you could pass the sniffer test with a small enough cam and the stock exhaust

SR does have CARB #

I never even checked that. Gee, guess I'm gonna remain illegal. :o
