Mirrors

I have a 73 convertible with large head chrome mirrors. In the past five years I had to replace them twice. These reproductions do not last very long. My question to anyone who has this problem is, can I install with little modification, 78-82 mirrors on this car. I realize that the left hand mirror has a remote adjustment cable that I will have to use. Has anyone done this mod? Thanks, JR.

I have the sport mirrors on my 75 and they just bolt on with two studs. Theres no adjustment remote on mine, just remove it so not to deal with it unless you want it.

I have a 73 with the sport mirrors. the only problem is they set lower on the door and less actual mirror reflect the road behind you. Other than that I like the look.

Be sure you seat the gasket correctly!

When I had my 78 painted, the shop installed the gasket upside down. I returned the 78 to them and pointed out the problem I was having. I didn't know it was the gasket at the time, I only knew I was seeing more fender, less road and that I could not get my hand between the mirror and window when washing and drying.

Well, we moved a short time after that and I inspected the mirrors after we were settled.

The gasket is sort of wedge shaped, with one long side being bigger than the other. The wider side of the gasket needs to be on top, to lean the mirror out for better rear viewing, otherwise, it leans in to the window and all you see is your fender and a little bit of road.

Sport Mirrors

I have sport mirrors on my 74 as well. While not stock, it looks much better than the stock mirrors that came with the car. They do sit a bit lower, the cable install should not be big issue.
