Misfire under load, 86 tpi

Starts and cruises fine. But when opening throttle, the engine balks,misfires, pops in intake, and will not accelerate smoothly. Runs up quick and smooth when sitting in neutral. What is going on?

So I got out my Haynes and followed directions best I could. During disassembly, I found No. 3 plus wire loose at the distributor. Then I found one of the three wires going from the distributor cap to the internal module was not connected. it is the one closest to the firewall and behind the battery lead in the HEI cap. All else looked good, so I reassembled, making sure all was connected it started okay. I then followed instructions for checking timing, and it was good. Took it for a test run and now it works great.
