I may be dreaming here but, I think Ii recall haviing seen some jackstands that actually bolt to the vehicle in place of the tires and allow the vehcle to be raised/lowered and moved around. Anyone know what I'm "dreaming" about here? Know where i can get them?

Thanks,

CS

Get a good welder to make them?

I'm not sure if it's really a safe idea support a car that way, since the hubs are designed to rotate.

Yes, the hubs are designed to rotate, but if you design them as a triangle with 3 equal length sides and bolt them to the car at the top, and put the wheels/casters what have you on the other two points of the triangle, it should be quite stable.

And then factor in the 3rd dimension turning them into pyramids like a regular jack stand and the stability might even be better than regular jack stands. You wouldn't be able to push the car so that the jackstands tip and the car falls off - the stands would simply move with the car.

I've never heard this type of setup before, but it sounds like a good idea.

I checked the"Go-Jack" and that is not quite what I am looking for. Actually, I have been thinking about building some, since I don't have a lift and haven't been able to locate any. What I am thnking about should give me about 24 inches of clearance underneath the car, once in place. They wouldn't necessarily have to have casters on them, but would be designed like an upside down "T" built from square tube steel. The verticle leg of the "T" would have a square tube sleeve that would slide up and down, depending on the desired height. The T" leg would have a series of holes for a pin to lock the sleeve at the desired position. Attached to the sleeve would be a round plate with holes that align with the lugs, thus bolting it to the car. Using a floor jack, lift the vehicle to the desired height and lock it in position with pins on each stand. It seems to me this woud give you increased height with ample room underneath and be very stable and secure.

I don't know, though, a lift in the shop is sounding pretty good right now.

Any thoughts?

Since we're on the subject - has anyone used both the KwikLift and the TiltLift. I'm curious to hear the pros and cons of each.
