No, it was originally Silver Pearl #986. It was also a 500 car (build number) which appears on the bulkhead, firewall and inside both doors.WayneC said:Was the car originally white? 972 is the exterior paint code for white, but that doesn't explain the dashes, and I'd expect to see the paint code underneath the car on the vertical surface in front of the gas tank.
It may be a quality control person's code and shift numbers combination. As the bodies worked their way through the St. Louis Plant, they were assigned a "Build Number" or "Job Number", (I'm uncertain of the correct term) to track them. This was in advance of them being assigned a VIN.Grizzly said:What is a "500" car?
