1966,and a 1962 thats almost complete
So the plans for my project are to install an LS6 chevy performance crate motor from the 90'S in my car.The car is being built as a stong driver,( I want to be able to keep up with my 66 L72) ps I picked the LS6 because it it so close to the L72 But I want to be able to run on pump gas (sunoco ultra 94),And be 100% reliable.and have enough vacum for my power brakes,(driveability)

So that is what is the utmost important,

Now for my wish list,

Have you ever been at a car show or near a car that just like hits you in your chest like the deap bass coming from a stong stereo,Not because the car is loud, I dont want loud,I want like the sound from my side pipes on the 66, But I want the deap hit you in your chest feel,What makes the motor sound/feel like that,Is it possible to build what I want keeping the priorities I have above.

I want it to feel/sound BAD but be pleasure to drive on a exstended trip.

I have asked the advice of the guy going over the motor, but it seems he only know how to build it mild or INSANE,

I hope I am explaining the feel part correctly,or maybee its just me hiper ventalating ,but when I am around one of these cars I can feel it in my chest like its stealing all of the oxegen and air it can get.

Larry are you talking cam and exhaust choices???

I have the same motor in my 65 Biscanye. A 90s LS6 crate eng. This was before they had the fuel pump boss and did not have roller cams. Before I put the eng in the car I changed the cam to a soild lifter setup. Don't remember the specs. The car runs high 13s and sounds just right. The stock cam is very mild and I just like soild lifters. If I where to buy a new one, it would still get a cam change. Just soild rollers. And then make a set of side pipes like the Briggs car with the small cut out in the rockers. It will hit you in the chest just fine.

I think I know the sound you are describing and believe it is derived from the compression, the specs of the cam used and the lack of a crossover in the intake manifold and/or the lack of an H or X pipe in the exhaust. That lets you hear EACH cylinder fire, although at the expense of some torque. Good ol cubic inches are a plus of course.

My engine was built in the early 70's with 12.5-1 compression, and has the 30/30 cam with headers and gutted factory sidepipes and I think it has the sound you mention, deep and throbbing. FI cars do not have the crossover in the intake manifold and if you notice sometime they have a different sound than carburated versions. I should also tell you that at road speeds of 3700rpm, (73mph) it's no picnic driving it any long distances, even with ear plugs.

In 1988 (back when lots of mid years were driven) Bloomington Gold celebrated the L-88's and the 25 anniversary of the 63's. A friend videotaped the road tour and you can really notice the difference in the sidepipe sounds of the different cars. You can tell when an L-88 is coming even before it comes on screen, but one might be fooled when mine starts up in the background. :)

I know the sound you're talking about. I hear it every time I start my car!

Compression! The higher the better, but there are realistic limits. ;) 11-1 is still realistic with 93-94 pump gas. Same as a L72. :D

Speaking of sound,,,,, When I bought my '69 vette,, I bought it with the 430hp option L-88 and factory side pipes....... I was stopped all over town by the fuzz for loud pipes and when I showed them the car was all original, they just scratched their heads and let me go......:confused

The lifters sound like a fine sewing machine and the exhaust sounds like thunder down in the valley....:upthumbs
I don't drive it much now tho because of the fuel [ 12:1 comp. ratio]
I have to add fuel boosters or buy racing fuel or it will knock like crazy:ugh

I keep two 55 gallon drums of 114 octane fuel on hand at all times. I mix the 114 with 93 pump gas in my L88 works perfect. plugs burn clean. and no detination.Only problem is I can't go very far from home.
