Sunday I installed the Passenger side Header and ran into a snag. The #2 Exhaust Tube..(The First Tube Forward) is hitting the idler arm bolt. Also I can rotate the header up against the top of the cyl head as the bolt stops it. There is a gap their. I removed the bolt and flipped it around so that the bolt head is on the motor side..but still no go.

In talking with Sanderson ..they think it might be my motor mounts. I'm using the Energy 3-1115R Poly mounts which are the Early style 2-5/8" wide..X 1 3/4" high. Does anyone know what the stock mount diamentions are in regard to thckness??

These headers should fit..There made in a jig so there shouldn't be a problem.
Rich Lagasse said he took his bolt out and threaded the Idler arm itself and used a short bolt.

Thinking about spacing the motor mount away from the block to gain some clearence.... :confused

Anyone have any ideas?????

Pics?

Remember..."After Market Fits Like Crap"

Mark call me a cave man but I would duct tape the header and give it a good "kiss" with a ball pein hammer.and then thread the idler arm.

Thats a cool gas line fitting going from steel to braided line what is it?

Nah...............That's Bubba Work..... I'm going to take every thing off the frame and stretch the frame at that point in a frame straightener to pick up that extra 1/2"....;LOL
The gas line fitting.............................
That's some of Rich's Handy work..you'll have to ask him...:beer

Wouldn't it be easier to use a large foundation jack to simply s-p-r-e-a-d the frame wider? ;)

Uhh... He said TAPE!

Don't count on the header being prepared properly from the factory. I went through 3 sets of drivers side headers before I got one that did not press against my fender at the collector (Sidemount Hookers). Hooker finally admitted that the master Jig somehow got bent. They fixed it, and overnighted me the third and final unit directly from Mexico!

The only compensation they gave me was $1000 voucher for parts from any Holley company. I must have spent 2200$ on labor putting on, taking off, messing with the trans mount height trying to get a little bit of room in there.

Call the manufacturer's tech support line and see if they have had any other complaints recently about your particular header.

If all else fails... try the TAPE thing!!

Thanks Dave,
I did call yesterday and spoke with managment. My choices are...send it back and have them check it....Do the Ding thing with a piece of pipe and a hammer.. Or Grind the Idler Arm Mount top to fit Like Rich L's did.

Sanderson said it's possible that it's made wrong.... but there all made in a fixed jig. They didn't say anything as far as other complaints go. So..If I want they'll take it back and check it. But that's no gauranty that it'll be any different when it comes back. Also..there in Calif...so thats two weeks back and forth and check time.

Thaks for the input..:beer

Update... after speaking with Donna at Sanderson....she said that they wiil investigate trying to remake a new header and get that Tube problem fixed. I'm waiting for a call back....I know.......Don't hold my breath.....

Bubba says "get out a torch, cut whats hitten' and weld the damn thing on!"

I would cut off the top of the idler arm at an angle, and either countersink a taper head bolt into the arm, or thread the arm and enlarge the hole in the frame slightly.

Mark when I purchased my sanderson headers there was a major concern by me on the fit between the upper control arm bushing and the headers,The fellow made it an easy choice for me to use them.He said he would send me my headers,I should see if they fit,if they did not and I could modify them with the pipe and hammer trick I should do so and return the headers to them and they would recoat them at no charge.I was able to tweak mine just enough for them to fit and the finish is still perfect.(the area I had to tweak will never bee seen once the car is assembled.)

Good Luck

Better one....Bubba Says.... Cut off Number 2 Exhaust tube and heave it in the trash....Weld the Exhaust port on the head shut.... and run that sucker on 7 Cyl's....;LOL

Spoke with Sanseson..and sent the picks of my car and Rich's BB67. There going to see if they can get some more clearence by bending the #2 tube inward more. There is room for it to move. If they can they'll send me that new header.

Who did you speak with..was it "Jeramie" Or "Tony" The big Boss? Do you have a pic of the header on the car??

Jeramie

and I can take a photo tonight of the frame with the motor in and the header on if you want

That would be grate... Could you shoot the idler arm area on the pasenger side and of course the drives side. Are they full length headers ..or shorty's like mine?

I also ordered the "Lokar" SS Tube Dipstick assembly ..as the stock 502 Dip stick gets in the way.

Thanks..............:beer
