Gettin ready to drop the 383 in, and thought afetr 25 yrs. it would be silly not to install new mounts, while I am at it, Should I go the factory rubber mount? They are reasonable, should I only replace the pad/rubber portion, are there much better after-markey mounts, if so what are they?? Thanks

With the 383 you may want to consider the poly mounts or even the ones that have a safety tab to prevent full failure. The rubber replacements are all about the same. I ordered from several different catalogs and sent the first ones back because they were made in India. The next ones were from China. I think I used them and haven't had any problems in 5 years on a stock "79 L48. Not a bad job to do however you end up going.

Since you already have the motor out. You should do the whole front end in POLYURETHANE. There are several good companies.
Check out ENERGY SUSPENSION.

There are several previous threads on this subject if you want to go back and check it out.

:Silly :Silly :Silly

Like vett79 said, don't get ant of those 'cheap' made in China mounts. Pay a little more and get a good set with the safety locks.

thanks lee, the front & rear were rebuilt w/poly about 6 mo. ago cause it was dancin all over the place with the broken down worn out original bushings, I went with poly (I think PST co.) and yes, it would have been a lot easier to do it with the motor out.

burg, where do I get this poly w/safty locks you speak of??

energy suspension 3-1114R. Red (for mounts, the poly itself is better in red than black). They have the safety interlock. $30 each, $60/pair at Summit. They're very nice ... I have em. They (ES) also make a poly trans mount ... nice ... have that too ... about $20 ... ES pn 3-1108R. Two motor mounts needed ... only one trans mount needed.

BTW, even the safety lock types in rubber at parts houses are often of china or india manufacture ... junk.

thanks jack, Summit has always been good to deal with, they look alright to me. I appreciate your reply I am going to get the 3 of them, hack red also matches the motor (LOL)

We just did that to our C3 & we put in the poly mounts ...
