Hi guys

My first thread here. :)

So I mounted a new fuel pump by lifting the pushrod with a screwdriver while inserting the pump lever. Since the pump is in a little bit difficult place I wiggled it some before getting it in place. My question is this:

Is it possible to sort of 'miss' or 'lose' the pushrod and still get the pump in place? I managed to get the pump in place with no force at all. If the pushrod is all the way down there is no way of getting the pump in place right?

Cheers
Fredrik

Miss the rod yes, loose the rod no
If the pump mated to the block smoothly its in!
The screwdriver method works fine in most circumstances

Ok, 'lose' was a bad choice of word. :)

If I sort of dropped the rod and it slid past the pump lever it would be impossible to get the pump in place, right?
I just want to be sure before I turn the key.

Thanks
Fredrik

Not impossible!
You would have had to draw it up tight to the block with the bolts

I needed no force to get the pump in place. I think everything is good.

There should be a threaded hole at the front of the block in front of and 90 degrees to the fuel pump pushrod. Next time, remove the bolt from the hole and replace it with a longer bolt finger tight to hold the pushrod in the upper position. Install the fuel pump and don't forget to remove the longer bolt and replace the shorter original one.

Yes, there is. Since my collection of screws is pure metric (Sweden) I had no bolt and I wanted the pump in place. Therefore the screwdriver method. #impatient

Anyhow, I tried blipping the starter to see if there were any bad noises. Everything sounded ok so I cranked it for a couple of seconds and it started right up. Now just checking for leaks but everything looks good.

Thanks
Fredrik

I use the bolt method too- 3/8-16 is the thread. Also a glob of grease will hold the rod in place too. Remember the rod works off a cam lobe on the camshaft.
