Hi all , I'm in the market for new mounted seat covers for my 81 with red interior. I've got catalogs from Ecklers, Mid America, and just today Corvette America(auto acc.). They all seem to be the same in price...but being 3 hrs from Corvette America maybe the shipping will be less. I'm seeing that Corvette America has a special on there(NQP) 4" Red mounted seats for 399.00 Any comments on what I might expect with them.

Just to note...my current oe seats measure 2" at the side...I've never seen a 4" seat...what modle year did they come on? And do they look big and balloon like? ...if ya know what I mean. I sure do like the look of my oe seat.( nice cut)...but to save 400.00 has got me thinking...any feedback will be a help...and would quality of the seat's be the same from all three dealers?
Once again thanks for any info...Ray.
One more thing...I'm also looking at new weather striping for Tee Tops and Doors...any thoughts on where to purchase

HEY I BOUGHT MY WEATHERSTRIPPING ON EBAYMOTORS SAVED ABOUT 75.00 CHECK IT OUT YOU ALSO CAN FIND GOOD DEALS ON SEAT COVERS BRAND NEW. SEE YA

Hey Bob, what I'm refering to are new seat covers already installed on the new foam...then just snap em in. I spoke to a sales rep from that place in Ga. I was told OE 2" Vinyl/Leather would cost 629.00 plus about 24.00 for shipping.Thats about 100.00 less then other prices I've gotten.
I thought about doing all the work myself...ordering new covers and new foam, but by the time I buy the tools and relaited parts required to do the job I really didnt thinkI'd be saving that much.

Never heard of that before.

I paid to have mine done. My frames were bent and they welded in addtional support.

Good luck. I've got one in and itching to get the other.

Bob

I just replaced by seats in my 82 ce. The foam, seat covers, mounting kit added up to be more than getting the seats ready to snap in. I got mine at Keen's Corvette Parts. They came from Corvette America, but They sold them to me cheaper than I could get them directly from Corv. Amer. It is nice to be able to "snap" them in.

Hammerdown..... DO NOT GET THE 4"BOLSTERS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Stay with nthe 2" likely in yiour car. They create more of a contoured bucket and do NOT fit larger frame people very well. I ordered a set of Leather seat covers premounted in new seat foam so all I had to do was drop them in the buckets. (FYI.... "drop" them in is truly an expression). Anyway, Ecklers had them to me in 2 days, and matched perfectly the oddball Cinnabar color found only on 1981 Vette's. I am pleased with the material and it took awhile to get used to the 4"seats. Even though I am 5'10" and 180lbs I still need a small pillow in the middle of my back for perfect comfort. Just my .02 worth.

I've heard somke stories that regardless where you buy them, MAD, Ecklers, CA, ...etc all get them from the same 2 manufactures. Could be an urban legend but I've heard it a couple times. Anyway, stay with the 2".

re:

I went with Willcox, they have GREAT service, and I would highly recomend checking them out. I got the 4" bolsters, I havn't used them yet though (dumb snow). I recovered them myself instead of just getting the pre-installed seats, it may have cost a few extra bucks in labor, but the learning experience was well worth it.

Here's how they look: http://www.villagephotos.com/pubbrowse.asp?selected=135209

Do a search for corvette rubber for the weather stripping.

Thanks for the feedback...I belive I'm going with TLD-Corvette in Tucker Ca. Also the O.E. Leather Vinyl 2"sides...as my oe's.

I went with Ecklers and they farmed the order out to Corvette America. I never warmed up to the looks or feel (hard as a rock) All I can say is 3 months later they went up on Ebay and if I do it again next time it's Al Knoch for me. I've seen thier work at Carlisle and it's tops.

Al Knoch????

I've herd that name before...can ya give more details? Thanks.

All the local Vette mechanics/restorers I know recommend them. It looks like the web site is down right now:

http://webpages.charter.net/ggwright/guyspage.htm

You see them every year at the major Vette events like Carlisle. They were even down at the NCRS meet last week in Florida.
