Mounting 1980 Emblems

I need to mount emblems on my rear bumper, my gas cap cover and my front end. There aren't any locating holes drilled anywhere. I can get approximate locations from my Assembly Manual, but need some advice on the actual drilling. How do I drill without flaking paint? Any advice on how to proceed would be much appreciated.

My front is mounted with double-sided tape. My rear is on the gas cap. what year is your vette?

I will check my 81 and my bros 77 when I get home and see where everything measures.

I have a 1980. No locating holes. What is the recommended method of drilling them??

OK, here are my measurements on my 81. On my gas cap, measured from the top of the door, it is exactly 3 inches from the top of the door to the top of the emblem. On my front emblem, it looks like about 11 - 3/4 from the hood/doghouse break to top of emblem. Let me know if that doesn't make any sense. Hopefully someone else will chime in (in case I don't know how to read my tape).
