I have an 81 and it's mufflers are covered up, only the tips come out. I'm assuming this is normal, but ya never know!

Anyhow, I was wondering how it comes down. It seems like it's not too easy to do. I will need to change my mufflers soon so I wanna know if there are any tricks!

Thanks!

Jeremy- I'm not sure what you mean by the mufflers "being covered up". Can you post a picture or explain further? I've replaced my exhaust system so I can probably give you some help.

I am not a 81 knowledgable guy, but i think someone got fancy there.. My 82 CE doesnt have that part/cover AT ALL.. :eek

Looks like some sort of aftermarket add-on rear valance panel; time to get in there with a light and start looking for attachments.
:beer

I agree with the others, some sort of after market or non-stock item. I never saw one of those but I must admit it looks pretty slick.

Cool, thanks everyone. I thought it was strange as well. It's a little off-color to the rest of the car, but looks like it was definately made for it. I know the car has a CanAm kit of sorts that looks like the Duntov Turbo Vette.

So, has anyone ever seen this before?! It must have been some kind of option or kit from somewhere right?!

The search continues....

I did it!!!

Well, I had to drop the spare tire in order to get to the bolts. Not too bad of a job. I also found out that I don't have a spare tire. No biggie, however, would you recomend keeping the carrier on, or just leave it off?

Anyhow, I took some pictures of the piece in case anyone was interested. There was also a tag from the company!

Enjoy!

Jeremy, i guess, it depends what tires you got on the car. If they are runflats, leave all of that off, if you have regulars, you should probably get a doughnut.. You'll just never know.. If you need sizes and stuff, let me know, i could take mine out.. :L

From the looks of the backside of the cover it is lucky that you did not burn up the car. :(

No fires for me thank you ;-)

Actually, one of my mufflers was sitting right on it and was also totally rotted out. So, all the exhaust was going pretty much directly onto it. That's why I was removing it, so I can put new mufflers on. But, thanks for the warning...

82ColEd, thanks man. I don't have any special tires, but do have fix-a-flat. I'm thinking that if the tire gets messed up so bad that it won't fix it, then I'd probably get it towed. There was a thread about this a while ago. Anyway, thanks for the offer to check out sizes and stuff. I'll let you know if I decide to go that route!

Thanks again!
