I hate to keep bringing up more exhaust questions but i do need some advice. Has anyone out there tried any of the muffler eliminator exhausts? these seem to be an inexpensive way to go.
how does the noise compare to lets say a flow master or comparable muffler system? I have a line on a cheap set of the gt style mufflers like the ones in the corvette central catalog. do you get the same hp gains with an eliminator type as opposed to just
a free flowing flowmaster? my biggest concern is the quality and fit as well as the noise level. I want a good deep rumble, but not
a sound like i have no exhaust at all. any help would be great.

Mufflers

Wade,
When I purchased my 88 last year, it had a set of monza mufflers on it. I like the sound and get comments from other vette owners that have driven behind me. They like the sound of them from behind. They are not overly loud, even with the top off. Cheap way to go too.

I have Flowmasters on mine and I've heard eliminators, though not side by side. Eliminators sound excellent and so do Flowmasters.

You have to remember that you'll save quite a few pounds with those eliminators as well. My Flowmasters are pretty heavy IMO.

I have the KDB 3" Targas and they sound great! They were about $150, yay. The only problem is the fit but I think the guy that installed them did not hae the best eye for detail. I am sure if they had spent a couple of more minutes installing them (and I had new hangers) it would have been a perfect fit. I like that when they are brand new they match your tailights too!

As for the sound, the mid-rpm resonance is much less than stock and on WOT it will certainly turn heads, but it is not the kind of straight pipe loud you might expect due to the fiberglass baffling.

I would reccomend the crossover tube to even out the flow (mine has the pops on decelleration, I kinda like that though) and some new hangers.

Bottom line: Inexpensive, Cool Looking, Cooler Sounding and again....Inexpensive.

Two thumbs up:upthumbs

On my 92 I had the mufflers repalced with pipes and new Chrome flat tips. I thought it sounded great. My wife thought it was too loud. Had a lot of resonance though at 20 to 30 MPH. I ran it that way about a year then I had flowmasters installed to appease the lady. Still sounds real good IMHO but much quieter at the lower speed. She likes it much better therefore I like it much better.
