Damn. That's awful!

On the good side, he appears to have missed the bumpers completely, so repairs should be limited to fiberglass and paint.

It'll still be a lot of work, and the originality of the glass will be lost, but it could have been lots worse.

We're surrounded by idiots on the road. :mad

Man, I feel for you . I bet it didn't take you long to get out of the car, the idiot was probably on a cell not paying attention.

Hope the insurance makes it right.

Tom

I feel your pain, I really do!
3 weeks after I got my '65 in March some idiot sitting at a red light decided to back-up........with me right behind him! He slammed dead on into the front of my car.
I got lucky though, it bent the entire fron chrome bumper assembly - left and right bumpers - and their brackets plus the grill but didn't touch the 'glass or paint.

sometimes it makes you feel that when we take these old classics out we have to hire escort vehicles to drive surrounding us - front, back, and each side - just to protect us from the other idiots on the road.

sorry about your problem!
:(

what kind of paint is on the car? do you think you will have a problem getting it to match in the repair area correctly? I know on my current paint which is lacquer getting it to match in repair areas was going to be a real b*tch so when I dropped it off to the body shop for a few repairs 2 weeks ago I decided to also redo to entire paint job and it's being redone in BC/CC instead of lacquer. any future "boo-boo's" will be much easier to blend in i'm told

BTW, I love the silver pearl color!

OMG!.ouch....so sorry for the damage. Whenever I see a wounded mid-year, it makes you want to cry.

Like remember the scene in "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" when Butch and the big guy are gonna fight to be the leader of the gang? And Butch says "We gotta get the rules straight?" Then The big guy says "Rules? There's no rules in a knife fight." And Butch says "Count to 10 , Sundance." And Sundance counts, and Butch kicks the big guy right in the cajones. I don't know about you and your crowd, but I swear, every guy in the theater where I was jumped with pain at that kick.......yeah, that's what it feels like when I see a wounded mid-year. BTW, the big guy that Butch Cassidy kicked..his real name is Ted Cassidy.
ASgain..so sorry.:cry

Sorry to hear of your unfortunate incident.

The good thing is that most of the damage seems to have split the body at or near the original bonding lines. Make sure that you have a good Corvette experienced body shop do the repairs. If they replace the tail light panel (with a press moulded piece) and perform the repairs correctly, there will be few telltale signs from under the car that is has taken a hit.

Good luck, it sure is a beautiful car!

The damage is past the bonding strips, the pic shows damage to the rear deck, which if put back factory meens the replacement of the roof panel as well (the roof and rear deck are one piece from the factory). Dont let the insurance company do you wrong on this. believe it or not the estimate to repair this damage to correct factory undamaged condition should be at or over $10k. I am sure the Exploders insurance company will tell you it just needs to be patched and paint spotted, I would not accept that. Take to someone with experiance, and make sure it comes back as good if not better then before it was hit. I have a pet peeve for tailgaters, I have a toggle switch on several cars to activate my back up lights when someone feels the need to tailgate a classic car. Really makes them back off.

That's sickening. So sorry to see this. Take it straight over to Naber's and tell the Explorer's insurance company to work it out with them . Nothing else is acceptable.

Dennis as always excellent advice! I did not want to bring the bad stuff to the post yet.

But there is another factor he has to bring foward to the insurance company and that is "deminished value" how much less his car is worth because it no longer has the virgin GM panels and seems on the car.

the adjuster you will deal with will threaten you with totaling out the car and it having NO value because of a salvage title.I just helped a fellow vette owner negoceate a deal simular to this.

But most important thing right now is to be able to prove the value of the car in todays market,

next is to find a corvette repair shop to meet with the adjuster,We are unable to deal with these adjuster they are paid to minamize the insurance claim .

Who do you have for insurance? Is it a collector car policy, were you using the car with in there policy limitations (dont answer that) Your company can and will restore your car to a PRE LOSS CONDTION and then substigate the money from the other comapny

Use caution and drop me an email if you want to talk Ill give you my phone number.

They use all kinds of scare tatics on you,Just remember it was NOT YOUR FAULT and you are intitled to having your car restored to a pre loos condtion and an addtional settel ment for diminished value

Again sorry but nows the time you have to do some home work

I have nightmares that look like that....... :cry :(

More than Ouch!

Sorry to see and read about the damage to your fine example of American automotive excellence. It must be heartbreaking. Best of luck on a speedy and equitable resolution to this tragedy.....:cry

I have looked at your post at least a dozen times. I have tried to come up with something to say or write that would help you feel better. Sorry I can't! I do not know how I would have handle that situation if it happened to one of my cars after years of restoration.

Good luck!

Ray
