My brand new hardtop is in the paint shop

I picked up a brand new in the box factory hardtop for my 96. I dropped it off at the paint shop on Saturday. He is telling me that the top should be baked a couple of times before he preps it. Something about the material "popping". He wants it to do it's thing before he paints it. The interior is finished in a semi-flat black which I guess is the way it stays. He will have a price for assembly and paint for me on Monday. My CE was factory ordered with the CC2 optional hardtop. It was not with the car when I got it. Now it will be complete once again.

I will be doing this soon for my 87 vert. I am going to Justin's shop in Streator, IL. He owns Vette2Vette.com. I am getting a used 95 top and all the hardware to convert it over. By driving the 5 hours down to install it I am saving the shipping costs, I get his help to install it and I have another excuse for a road trip!

It's strange how vette owners are so fanatical about their tops. I'm the same way...I have two, and most of the time neither top is on the car. I miss those road trips in the vette...gonna have do one soon!

Just curious, how did you manage to get a new factory hardtop? I didn't know they still made them and I thought they ran around $4000 when new. I'd love to see pictures when it's finished.

I found it a place called Hub Caps Plus in Libertyville IL. He said he had five of them. This was the last one. GM no longer makes them. I was lucky to find it within driving distance.


I should have it back on Tuesday next week. I will most definately post some pics.
