Will not open from inside or out.any ideas on how to get it open??

I have had the same problem with my 1975. On mine, the locking mechanism is not releasing. Try turning the lock knob on the inside and at the same time turn the key in the outside lock.
I need to take mine apart to correct it. Sounds like a similar problem on yours. Good luck.

I had the same problem. The mechanism was all gunked up. I was fortunate enough to have the door panel off and hit it with a couple of shots of WD40, worked the mechanism and it started working again. I'm concerned that it is just a short term fix though.

Roll down the window and then use a long screw driver to release the mechanism. I wish I could describe exactly what you are looking for to trip with the screwdriver . . . it's not exactly obvious when you look in there. However, I have had the same problem and messed around with the long screwdriver enough to finally find the right thing to push against in order to unlatch it. The short story, I guess is, it can be done . . .

Good luck.

Find a BIG saw, hehe, well did ya get it yet?I had the same problem on a 77 last year and it was the latch mechanism.Very frustrating thing to happen.I spent hours trying to get it to open.I just kept messing with it and it eventually came open.I tried to fix the old mechanism but just ended up buying a good used one.Worst case scenario is you will have to cut the door panel off. :beer

I still have not gotten I yet but I have taken a break from wrestling with it. I think I will be able to open it but I may have to buy a new assembly before it is over. I think the handle is just worn out. Too bad it is not summer cause I never usually have the top up

Same problem here one time.Work the inside door lock back and forth and watch right behind the door glass,You will see the mechanism moving and look's like it is working. From there you will eventually hit the right combo to trip.Carry screwdriver in car and lube well,it probably will happen again out in the middle of somewhere.Hope this help's!

Oh yeah I can look down the window and see it i trying to work but I just can't get it to open. It is going to drive me crazy

I had this problem AGAIN the day before I had eye surgery so I couldn't fix it for two weeks. Finally got to it last weekend. Imagine being 6'6" tall and entering/exiting your Vette throught the passenger door. I am now a trained contortionist!

Anyhow, I sprayed both of mine with WD40 to moisten the oil and dust, sprayed it with a paint safe degreaser, then washed it with water and reoiled them when they dried. If you start having problems with the door locks or latches you better get it before it gets you!

Hey alwyn ,did you get it yet?I remembered something about that 77 that we did that had the same problem. If I messed with the lock and the door handle at the same time ,it would come open.Usually if I turned the lock 1/2 way and pulled the door handle it would open.:beer

What is up Paint Daddy.........Nope I have not gotten it yet but it will be opened by this weekend I can assure ya

Turned out to be the entire lock mechanism was worn out and it broke At the striker. I ended up not tearing out the door panel but instead I had to remove the door panel wih the door on. It can be done but the piece along side of the door does have to be "modified" in order to achieve removing the door panel with the door closed. Once I got the panel off I had access to the striker and then was able to jimmy it off with a screwdriver. Luckily My buddie Mack had a new lock assembly unit which I installed in the door and lubriated everything real well and also adjusted the handle so it fits flush with the body(used to sag a bit) Quite a bit of work but worth it for not having to "duke boy it" everytime I got in the car. Now it works better than the passenger side

Alwyn, are you talking about Mack Masengil(yes everyone thats his real name)?Hes a good guy for a hippie.I buy a few things from him but not much.I prefer to buy as much stuff new as I can .:beer

What is up Paint Dddy!! Hope all i going well..................
Yep I am talking about Mack.......Great guy and everything that I have gotten from him has been great and top quality. Not to mention at a great deal. He is a real fair guy. I would not call him a hippy....just a dude with longer hair than you or me!!:beer :L ....Trust me I know hippies......... I was one in college
