OK gang,:w here is Part 1 of my story about “Turning my C5 into a show car” (Paint)
Having been a lover of Corvettes since high school (1960), it was my dream to purchase my 98 Amethyst convertible in 1997 and take delivery from the factory January 2nd, 1998. Lets back up a minute, why Amethyst?

In a tour of the Corvette Museum in late 1997 my wife saw a 98 Amethyst convertible at the end of the assembly line and said “If you’re going to get one, you should get that color because it is your birthstone. That’s all it took, I ordered it the next week.

Here I am 11 years later, now retired from banking, and working in the business I love, selling aftermarket Corvette parts for the C5&C6 on my web-site.

As the 98 now has over 112,000. miles it was time to do some restoration, so we started with the paint. Earlier I had some repair work done on the hood and my local Chevrolet dealer did such a good job in matching the color that I knew they could paint the rest of the car correctly to match. As it turned out I needed a rear bumper because of some damage and both rear fenders because of stress cracks. I figured if I was going to do this, I might as well go all the way and have a new car. Finding a good paint shop is very important and you need to do your homework first.

About this same time I wanted to add some parts that we could market at the Corvette shows, so I added many of the products we sell for the C5.

Just to mention a few:
·Upholstery by VetteEssentials
·Lloyds Mats
·Passport 9500i by Escort
·Vortex Rammer by Breathless Performance
·2008 C6 Reproduction wheels (18”X19”)
·Rear 14” EradiSpeed Rotors by Bear
·Dress up side Markers, Billet Taillight Bezels and Stainless Letters
·Sport Exhaust with X Style Crossover by Corsa
·Side chrome Spears with Screen
·Under Hood Polished SS Dress-up by American Car Craft

This C5 will be taken to major Corvette shows around the country over the next few years and we will report the outcome.

Pretty C5, Paul... and welcome to the :CAC!! I had to refer to the CAC Model Center when I read "Amethyst"... then I realized you were talking about the Medium Purple Pearl Metallic. Nice color!!

How do I post more pictures other that an album?

Paul, there's a forum here called the Site Help and Feedback forum with lots of useful information regarding photos: resizing, posting, linking, etc.

Specifically, this thread concerns including photos in your threads: Uploading photos

Enjoy!

It was with interest that I checked out your photo's. I have the same color combination. I'm assuming your Vette was delivered with the Tan interior.

I bought mine with 37K very clean miles and kept asking my lady friend how she could have let me purchase a "Purple" car. After months of my asking that question she reminded me that it was her birth stone. Now at least I have a reason.

You realize that this was a one year color and that out of the 381 Vettes painted that color, only 128 of them were roadsters so it is rather rare.

Once the weather improves (no snow) I will take it up to my favorite photo place in the red rocks of Sedona Arizona and shoot a few pictures.:beer

Enjoy the ride,
Denny

Just out of curiosity, what do you mean when you say so many people are not driving thier C5's?

C5s

I don't drive mine daily but I drive it alot and my brother drives his almost daily. I entered it in three car shows this past summer and won a trophy in two. I was never asked about the milage. My '98 C5 only had 47,000 miles on it when I purchased it first of '08. The previous owner also had a '67 vette conv. and a few other vehicles so I guess he didn't drive this one alot. Anyway, it it was a nice purchase for me.

Thanks Jane, we are working on our 2009 advert.

Hey Paul,

Your ride looks great, well done and I'm glad to see another "Over 60 guy" enjoying his youth even if it is a might late. Your color has got to turn heads wherever you go.

I bought a 93 Ruby in August 08 then had a chance to trade for a 1998 Torch Red Coupe which looks and drives like new and has 87,000 miles on the clock. It has a much nicer ride than the 93 and is much, much easier to enter and exit.

Welcome to the CAC, there are some great people with terrific information on hand, so enjoy and .......

Keep 'em rollin' :W
Bill
