They don't go up and down as they used to do. They are power windows, and still work, but slower. And it makes me wonder if they are really sealing right when they are at the top, when the window is closed.

Any idea what could be causing this? Maybe the motor is shot? But why would it be both windows?

Could be the cold...everything contracts in winter...also any lube will stiffen up a bit when it gets colder.

Ahhh I see. So I should wait until the weather warms up to really diagnose it?

Here's a viable option that can't hoit...

Hey Batman, why not try an aerosol-spray lubricant such as Silicone (harmless to rubber & plastic), directing the wand-nozzle down into the vertical front & rear glass guide-channels (hint: -do this at night, and with window-down shine a tiny-flashlight down into the window-slot so that you can better see where you are wanting to spray), don't use petro-based sprays such as wd40 on to any rubber-channels however, as it will deterioate the rubber). Naturally, the first thing to happen is that you will loose the wand-nozzle down inside the door... ~Bob vH

:D

That is a good idea. But where exactly do you suggest that I spray at? I'm not too familiar with what is going on inside our Corvettes' doors.

power windows, 1979

I am having the same problem.
I have taken it apart once and cleaned and lubed everthing.
Once back together --- no improvement.
I figured maybe the motor was old and tired so I replaced it with a re built.
Put it back together--- no improvement.
The regulator and everthing else seems to be in good shape.
I shought I might replace the spring next, even though it's not broken.
If you figure it out let me know because I'm getting ****ed.

To be honest, my problem has still not been resolved. I haven't gone to the measures you have yet, but it is still lagging. I recently washed the Vette, and though the windows don't shoot up like they did before, they still do create a waterproof seal. But who knows how long it will be until it doesn't do that. Then I'm in trouble. :(

Any other remedies for me and Lee H?

take the interior door panel off and the access door to the window motor. there is like an x piece that runs like scissors, this joint must be oiled, also spary in the track and anywhere there is movement . put window up and down so you can see whats moving and spray it. mine work like new now, in fact they seem to go up faster than down. mike

Is that a pretty big job, Mike? Taking the door panel off? Sounds like something that would cause a permanent rattle once re-installed. :)

I really hope not,the only piece left inside my car that is the color of the interior is the steering column,i stripped it completely out as part of the frame on rebuild.i'd post some pics, but when i look at where i'm at, and where i'm going,i get disgusted and want to quit. but i'll definately post some before and afters later. mike

I totally understand, dude. Have fun and good luck with her!!

hey stallion, did ya try checking the battery/alt?
My drivers side window did that and after a few hours on the charger it almost went through my arm like butter knife,If ya take the battery posts
loose and recharge the battery it might help it , it could be a relay or just a dead cell , or perhaps the way you stored it during the winter, just my 2 cents
sherry:)

I thought Electrics. If you have stripped and sorted out the mechanical parts then check out the electrical supply/connections. After all it is an electric motor, if it is not getting much juice then it will not work so well. Just a thought.
