My speedo hangs at 35 mph

The speedo head itself. Neither the cable or drive gear can cause this.

Thanx for the reply Mikey. So far, all i can find is a replacement circuit board or rebuild service.

Wouldn't you know, I drove it today and it worked as advertised. The the difference between today and last time was the temp. It's about 30 degrees warmer today.

You guys think it could be the cable lube being cold???

I have read all the previous posts on the subject, and I think I injested too much information.

I can't seem to find a clear choice of lubricant or to lube it at the speedo (and tach for that matter; preventative Mx is always good right) or at the transmission.

Sorry in advance if I sound like a rookie, but I am...

Neither your speedo nor tach have any electronics in them, they're pure mechanical.

Also, there is no provision to lubricate them with any type of oil or grease. That would further screw them up.

Scott, my 82 did the same thing. I just replaced the speedo cable. In doing so I eliminated the cruise control, as I didn't need it anyway. Oh by the way, my problem was with the cruise control transducer. I didn't feel that the need for a new one out weighed the $$$ so just bypassed it.

Mickey, I think if you check you'll find that the tach on an 82 is in fact electronic.

Dave, did you just have to screw it to the transmission, pull it through the firewall, and clip it to the speedo? Sounds easy enough. I don't really need the cruise control right now either.

I did away with my cruise control also......I took all the cruise stuff out.....then got a speedometer cable for a non cruise car and installed it.....
