I'm working on my 78 frame off restoration for one and a half years now and it's going great. I'm just waiting for my u-bolts for the half shafts from eckler's and my 4 brake rotors from Mid America($ 199 for a complete set) to finish my frame assembly.
During this project my wife was complaining a lot, that I was working too late and too much on the car.

But now to my surprise she doesn't complain anymore and now she want's a C3 convertible(too expensive for me). I would like a project car, because they are cheaper to get. Or I would like to have a '68-76 coupe and turn it into a convertible. I can do alot myself.

Question; Do you guys have any experience buying a car on EBAY? Is it save to make deposits when you make a bid on a corvette on EBAY?

I live outside the US and the closest region for me to buy a Corvette in the US is Florida.
Please help me out.

I've done a few transactions on Ebay. I even looked into buying cars there. Here's my advice:

For small items like bolt on parts and stuff, Ebay rocks. It's easy. Fun. And usually, you'll get a bargain on stuff you normally will pay a lot for new.

For buying a car, watch out! NEVER buy a car you've never test driven nor seen in person. Unless you've got money to burn. Then you've got the shipping hassles you need to arrange with a person you will likely NEVER meet. Risky business buying cars on Ebay.

I looked at a couple of Corvettes that was in Ebay, then I went to go see the cars in person. The pictures in the internet simply won't show detail. Interiors look great on digital pics but is a whole other story in person. Likewise, paintjobs look great on the computer monitor but in person is where you'll see all the nicks, scratches, dents, & cracks.

My suggestion for you is to go visit Florida in person. Buy yourself the "Sports Car Trader" (available at any Liquor Store anywhere) in the County that you will be staying in. Then go and visit the Corvettes of your choice in person. You'll need about 3 days or so but in the end, it will be worth it because you likely won't get stuck with a car that's in really bad shape.

I have bought two vettes off of Ebay. There are a lot of vettes in that area. Check the seller Feedback and get the inspection to be sure if you want to. Most of all remember you may have to do some fixing some bid accordingly. Also don't forget the cost of getting the car home.
