The 2008 Corvette Z06 pace car for NASCAR's 15th Allstate 400 is parked on the track at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indianapolis, Indiana Tuesday, July 22, 2008. This race marks the 15th time that Chevrolet has paced the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard and the fourth consecutive time Corvette has led the pack. The Z06 will be driven by retiring General Motors Vice President Global Vehicle Sales, Service and Marketing John Middlebrook, who served previously as Chevrolet's General Manager. Johnson survives tire debacle at Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS (AP)—Jimmie Johnson celebrated his second victory at Indianapolis Motor Speedway with a burnout.

Appropriately, one of his tires exploded.

Johnson survived horrendous tire troubles that made Sunday’s race a caution-filled debacle because the Goodyear product was not durable enough to withstand the lack of downforce on NASCAR’s new car and the speeds and surface of Indy.

“We came with the best tire we had for the conditions and we fell short. We’ll try to get it right,” said Greg Stucker, director of race tire sales for Goodyear.

Johnson and Crew Chief Kanus showed their "stuff" today, that's for sure.

The 48 won from the pole, in-spite of Goodyear's tires.

But, in defense of the last great American tire company, the problem may have been just as much the race track surface itself as it was the tires.
