black 81 corvette 4-speed
Well I changed over to non computor dist ect,I need a non feedback carb for my 81 anybody have one they want to sell give away ?I need it to be a carb like i have but no electronic controlls. Thanks a bunch Jim

you scrapped the hei ignition???why??
as far as the carb goes, almost any quadrajet will work, you can pick them up at the junkyard for 30 or 40 bucks.does you car have a mechanical fuel pump??you'll need one to supply the carb, electric have too high pressure.

I'm not 100% sure but I believe if you are going back to a stock setup, and using the computer. You will not be able to use any quadra jet carb. The 1980 CA 305 and the 1981 with the automatics used the same carb, I'm not sure about the 1981 4-Speeds.

I've seen them on Ebay from time to time, also if you contact Stingray6974 (look him up from the members list) and send him a PM or Email he would know for sure and might be able to help you out. ;) Tell him Bud sent ya ;)

I'm at work so I don't have my 1981 reference material, but I think the Carb number for the 1981 is MME prefix.

Ebay here he comes....

-no, as i understand him, he has gone to the previous year 1980/HEI-ignition, and now wants to bypass the computer (perhaps it has gone bad, or he just is looking for more human control over things); --so the thing is to look for a similar sized V8: '80/Pontiac/Olds/Buick or Vette(but they bid these up more) necessarily with electric-choke (and linked-up dashpot aft of the choke-dial), then make sure you are using an '80 type mechanical/Fuel-pump (probably get it all from the same seller if you e-mail'em prior to bidding. I just bought a nice spare for $15; --look for a seller that has not tampered with it, and only bid when a good clear picture is shown (otherwise it may be junk, and they are trying to hide the fact i have found). Also, i like to buy/sell using Postal-Moneyorders(90-cents), as it is like cash so makes for a quick transaction...
Sincerely, ~Bob vH

~Bob vH,

;) good catch on that non-computer carb.. I was way off there :eyerole yea the last thing he would want is a MME style :(

Thanks for your input, care to follow the Dawg and me back to Auburn :D

I agree to look on ebay. I bought a spare for my 80 for $30; in excellent shape. I bought a rebuild kit for $25 and it's good to go. But, like was mentioned, look for a non-Corvette carb so it's cheaper. For example, mine is a 17080204, but I got a 17080202. As far as I can tell, they're identical. You may already know this, but the numbers are broken down like this:

170 - made after 1975
80 - made in 1980
2 - federal emissions, a 5 would be California emissions (probably electronic)
0 - 0, 1, or 2 are all for Chevy, anything else is other GM
2 - an odd number means manual trans, even is automatic

I got this from Lars Grimsrud's Qjet tuning paper found at corvettefaq.com

Hope that helps.
