86 Vette in and out of service shop 6 times
Problem -- Engine light comes on
Code reading- mass air flow problem .
Take it back to service shop and good for 2 or 3 days .
When I pick the car up it is fine for a couple of days then bingo the engine light comes on ---Usually first thing in the morning when starting .the car idles crappy .Run it for a few minutes and restart and it goes off.
They checked sensors, voltage, cleaned up connections .
Any suggestions
Thanks

I would try your power and burnoff relays. My brother's car threw a MAF code, so we swapped MAF's from my car to his because i knew mine worked. The code came back. I did some reading in a few books and for around 15 dollars we replaced both. It not only kept his engine light off, but corrected that crappy idle you are describing. I think it is a cheap way to go. I hope I am giving you bad advice, but for 15 dollars it is preventative maitenance as well.

Good luck

Craig

I have a 86 coupe also,, i changed burnoff and power relays light still came on-replaced MAF ran good for 5 minutes than light came back on.So i bit the bullet and brought it to a chevy dealer,, they said ecm was toast and it burned out the maf sensor and also and the power relay again, and the prom chip needed an upgrade so 1200.00 bucks later the car runs like an animal. If there ever is a next time i will get aftermarket ecm--seems to be a problem with this year an take it from there.

I am having a similar problem, with my 89 with 102k miles. car was running bad, no code! took to independent shop, $3400 later I have 3 new injectors, resealed intake manifold, all new exhaust with cats, all new ignition parts, new relays etc..... car runs well now, maybe a little rich at startup but much better. Except now it codes the MAF, changing that did nothing, still have check eng, lite... frustrating!!!
