Need Advice on Possible ASR/ABS Problem

Hi.

Found a '93. Car is absolutely gorgeous but there are a few possible problems so I thought I'd see if anyone could give me some input or advice.

Car drives perfect, EXCEPT there is some weirdness with brakes in a couple of ways.

1) Pedal pulses even when applied lightly. I was under the impression that you should not feel this unless the ABS was being activated due to a "panic" type stop.

2) There's some "grinding / chatter" type sound from the rear that occurs after you come to a stop and then take off again.

3) Both the ARS, (even when the ARS is turned off.), and ABS lights are lit up constantly. Based on what I've read, this seems to be a combined unit that controls both functions.

Also, only some of the functions work on the drivers power seat controls. No back and forth, no tilt. I’m guessing the motors are O.K., so does this sound like a switch problem?

I really like the car, and if not for these glitches it would probably be mine tonight, but I'd wanted to see if I'm looking at a major problem or something that can be corrected without some obscene amount of money.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like there is a problem with BOTH the ABS and ASR. Those lites ONLY come on when there is a specific problem. You need to have someone run a scan test or use a code-breaker to find out the trouble code numbers. I would bet that there are several numbers stored in the PCM. Definitely have the car diagnosed before you buy. Good luck!

I have so far not seen any ABS messages on my DIC (Driver Info Center - located above the A/C); did not have to do any hard braking - this may be why. But it is normal to see the ASR sign on the DIC when it is activated. In other words, when ASR is on and there is a need for it to function, the ASR sign shows in the DIC (telling the driver that it has done its job..).
I also believe that somehow ASR & ABS work in conjunction with each other although they are two altogether different functions. Have some authorized service check it before buying the car. May end up being expensive.

You're right; the ASR / ABS are one unit as far as I have been able to find out.
And you're also correct about when the ASR light should be on. Problem is it NEVER goes out.
If you have any other thoughts, please let me know.

I wish I knew more about the Corvette; I bought mine last summer and have tried to read most anything I could find about it. But after all cars are not my bread & butter, and I believe professional advice should come into action for complicated matters. Wish you the best.

I read your profile after send you couple responses and I see you are from Santa Clara, and we are same age . I was in San Jose for 3 months in 1990 and came back a few times after that. Long time I have not been in USA . I had no itention to buy a car for myself, and last summer it downed on me that I should have a hobby . So I ended up getting a 95 Yellow Coupe . As you may have already noticed I am from Turkey and I absolutely love my Vette :s . It is a 6 speed manual with LT1 engine and has little over 30K miles. Believe it or not I clean the engine compartment with tooth brush and tooth pics - it is immaculate clean; interior is in excellent condition ... I am married with two sons; 23 & 16. They both like the car but dad does not allow them to drive it . Passanger seat is fultime dedicated to my wife and no other female creature has occupied that seat yet .
