HI GLAD TO BE ON THIS SITE
i have a 76 L48 , i added a 268 comp cam 218 adv duration .458in .458 ex
1year ago still not happy looking for some hp i also have a performer manifold
iam considering a set of edelbrock performer rpm heads ,650 performer avs carb
hooker super comp headers, sidepipes with glass packs
hp igniton set up roller rockers ,i bought the car already having a 373 rear
what do you think of this set up
help? THANKS

NICKY D

Nicky, if you end up using the Hooker Sidepipe set up (I think that is what you are describing here), do your self a favor and pass on Hooker's insert mufflers. They only have an 1 7/8" I.D. and severly restrict power. On my '72, I went with the JCL spiral baffle inserts and it really woke the engine up. Charles

thanks for your reply, i checked out the website for jcl spiral baffles
are they evan louder then glass packs i am worried about sound
police
thanks nicky d

Yes they are a little bit louder but not much more. Either will get the attention of the police. It's just that the JCL's unleashed all the power that my motor was making. Believe my testimonial to my personal increase is still on JCL's site amonst others. To my way of thinking, most HP vette conventional exhaust pipes are 2 1/2". The Hooker mufflers with the 1 7/8" I.D. is like well, putting an 2" exhaust system on, IMHO Charles

Mine was a l-48 when I started I put in a 383 I had in the barn with a TPI system and it woke it up. I have had good experiance with Edelbrock parts, it sounds like a good plan if you stick with their matched system. I matched my cam, heads(Brodix)and intake to the desired operating range and it runs great. An OD trans won't hurt either.

the JCL baffles were actually less noisy on my car, until i uncapped them! they will flow much better than the glasspacks and cool off 100 times faster. as for your motor, i would run some AFR180's and headers. the stock heads and exhaust are killing your car. the AFR's are about $1100 a pair, and far better than the Edelbrocks. since you're going all roller, have you thought about freshening up the bottom end?? bumping compression to 10:1 with aluminum heads will also get things pumping. figure out your budget, engine mods are varied and so are the price tags. a 383 or 406 might suit your power needs better than a 350 for the same price. things to considder are budget, power goals, emissions, #'s matching, tranny, etc. etc. start with emissions, then throw out your power goals and wallet, we can help you spend some fun money. iam going with the spiral baffles
thanks for the information

iam definitly going with the spirals
i will look into the arp heads .as for the bottem end ,

craig
thanks for the help
i will let you know how it worked out

Go with the EDELBROCK POWER SYSTEM, cyl. heads will make a big diff,Just remember as H.P. goes up,so does the noise level!!!!!!! IF THATS WHAT YOUR LOOKIN FOR!!!!!!! Good Luck!!!!!!!:L

Nicky, just a tip. Use plenty of hi-temp antiseize compound where the header slips into the sidepipe tube. This will insure that you have a fighting chance of getting them apart at a future date if needed. Charles

that motor , with that cam , a performer rpm intake a holley 650, and headers, just get a port and polish job, 2.02/1.65 valves , you should be right at the 300 h.p. range.no big money there, just cheap h.p.
I did almost the same thing to my vette 1975, for under a thousand dollars it really woke up that motor.(installed cam myself , also took the heads on and off myself).mike

Seems 1975 & newer C3 came with restrictive Y-pipe & cat ... not true duals.

Probably the one single thing that'll get you most bang for the buck ... if it hasn't been done already ... retrofit a true dual exhaust ... even without headers it'll make a big difference for relatively small $. Similar for distributor ... a performance curve ... parts no more than about $40 ... less wallop than true duals but less $ too.

If the heads are coming off for service ... and both heads & block's decks are still pretty true ... simply replacing a composite head gasket with a thinner steel shim-type will bump CR up about one-half (ie 8:1 becomes about 8.5:1). IMHO ... worth fooling with only if heads need to come off anyway.
