I am doing some mods to my 88' and I have the runners off and the valve covers and released pressure in the fuel line with the schrader valve. I went to disconnect the hard line from the fuel rail and the gasoline just won't stop. I took of the gas cap and waited awhile and loosened the line and gas just keeps pouring out. It is not dripping it is running. I can't do anymore work untill I can get it to stop. Please help! Also, how many footpounds should the fuelrail be locked down with because I broke a 10mm socket and had to use a hammer on the 10mm wrench to break them loose.

Thanks, Mark

Pull the fuse to the fuel pump and start it up until it stalls...then you should be good...

can't start it, no rocker arms on it. I just can't understand why there is pressure in the line.

Hi

With engine not running and ignition off there should be no fuel pressure !! These 2 fail safes are there to prevent fuel from spewing in event of a crash( and burn)

Pull fuse to fuel pump -if no stop - someone rewired it to bypass or installed a different fuel pump.

This same thing happened to me as I frantically looked for various items to place over the end to stop it. I read somewhere that the fuel is siphoning from the tank when it does this. Best thing to do is drain the fuel tank (into an approved gas container, of course).

Yep!!That's What it is!!! I have a 44 gallon Plastic Tank I pump the gas into with a High Volume Fuel pump!! when you get it below 1/4 tank it should quit running!!:upthumbs

When I replaced my injectors last yr. had the same problem with gas leaking from the lines. I took a piece of rubber tubing with a plug on the end and pushed it on the ends of the fuel lines and no more gas leak!! Worked for me... Good Luck

Realizing that this particular problem is solved, I'd like to caution against using the advise to start the engine to run out the lines.

With raw fuel all over the top of the engine, starting it could prove expensive.

Thanks guys for all the quick replies, I really appreciate it. I won't start it untill everything is reinstalled. I just filled up the tank too. Today at least I got off the injectors. I basically just took a foot of rubber fuel line and conected both hard lines. Now I can remove the intake. I haven't decided yet if I am going to replace the cam.

I had the same thing happen on my 1992. After losing a significant amount of fuel and having it react with my garage floor coating which had me sticking to the floor, I went back and read the manual. It's been awhile, but the fuel is being siphoned from the tank. The solution is to disconnect one of the lines from the tank (can't remember if it is the supply or return), located just under the filler door. Takes a couple of minutes to disconnect but you don't have to drain any fuel. You might see if that works as well. Hope this helps.
