I Own A 1998 C5 Spiral Grey. Really Nice Car. As Of A Few Days Ago I Got Check Engine Light On, Traction Control And Reduced Engine Power. Not Many Codes...only C1221, C1278. I Also Got A Code Of P1515 Only Once. The Car Goes Into Reduced Engine Power As Soon As You Accelerate. If Anyone Can Tell Me What Is Going On I Reallt Truly Appreciate. I Just Became A Member And Really Am Desperate. If Anyone Can Help Please Help!!!!!!

Thank You

HI there,
The P1515 is what the 'Reduced engine power' is being caused by.
This is telling us that the computer wanted to see the throttle plate at a certain location, and it does not get there. So, in order to avoid a problem that could be alot worse, it defaults and shuts down the throttle control system.
So, there are a few things that could be causing this.
First, 1998 was a tough year for TAC, or the throttle actuation control modules. There were a couple of changes to the modules over the first 3 years of production.
Second, take a look at the picture. This location is where the wiring will rub through, causing all sorts of TAC codes and problems. I would suggest pulling the wiring back if it is contacting the fuel rail safety bracket.
Third, mods have been known to cause this code sometimes. Does the car have any aftermarket accessories????
The 2 TCS codes, C1221 which says that there is a problem with the left front wheel speed sensor, and C1278 which says that the TCS/ABS has been disabled will not cause the reduced engine power. It will shut down the ABS, but that is about it.
Please clear the codes after you move the wiring harness, and let us know if it comes back.
Allthebest, and welcome to the CACC.

Hi There

I Moved The Wires And Reset The Codes But As Soon As I Touch The Gas Pedal The Check Engine Light Comes On With The Service Traction Control
And Reduced Engine Power. The Only Codes That I Get Are P1221 And C1278. Only Once The P1515 Code Came Out But Has Not Come Back Out Again. We Also Had A Problem With The Ac. The Drivers Side Ac Was Blowing Hot And The Passenger Was Blowing Cold. This Has Gone Away But The Air Is Not Cooling As It Should.

I Opened The Wheel Well And Checked For Any Loose Hoses I Also Cleaned And Sprayed The Connectors Of The Modules With Contact Cleaner. I Dont Know What Else To Do.

Thanks

Forgot To Say The Car Does Not Have Any Aftermarket Parts And All Of This Happens With The Car In Park.

Ok, so it is a P1221, not a C1221.
This changes things. This is telling us something totally different.
This is saying that the throttle position sensor circuit is not showing us exactly what is being expected.
You may have a connector at the TPS that is not providing a complete connection or the sensor is bad.
Not that hard to change, and will take a tamper proof torx driver to remove and replace.

First Of All Thank You

We Changed The Tps And The Codes Went Away. No More Check Engine Nor Reduced Engine Power. You Were On The Money. But, Now We Have Another Little Problem. The A/c Works And The Fan Control Increases And Decreases The Speed But The Volume Of Air Coming Out Of All The Vents Is Restricted. It Cools But Doesnt Blow With Pressure. I Get Code Hvac B0361 H& B0363 H We Also Got B0441 Hc Once But Has Not Come Out Again. I Tried Pulling Fuses 18 & 27 But Still Does Not Work. Do You Have Any Idea As To What It Might Be.

Thank You

Hi there,
How is the temperature??? Does it get cold and hot????
Allthebest, c4c5:hb

Well Yesterday It Was Cold Now It Cools And Then It Starts To Blow Hot Air Out Of The Drivers Side Then It Gets Cold Again. I Did Notice That The Air Blows Out Of The Defroster And The Bottom Vents As Well As The Center Ones. I Checked The Freon And Its Ok.

Help

HI there,
I believe that you have 2 different problems here.
First, your problem with the air coming out of all the vents, is usually due to the vacuum line behind the PCM being eaten away from acid leakage from the battery. This drips down the conduit and eats the plastic line. I would check that for the damage to make sure that there is nothing there.
As for the hot and cold, you have an actuator that is changing the temperature because it is not functioning correctly.
Disconnect the negative battery cable for about 5 mins and then reconnect.
Let us know what happens.
