My '84 is bone stock but I plan on headers in the future. The mufflers are toast. I would like some recommendations on what has worked for all of you and what has not.

Thanks.

That comes up alot and you might try a search on the topic. There are a number of good choices depending on how deep your pockets are.

This past summer I replaced the complete system, I used a stainless front Y pipe, 2.5" part number 603-390 for 84-85 from Mid America, I also used their free flow cat number 603-926 for 84-85. I then bought Borla stainless steel mufflers and rear Y pipe with twin 3" outlets. it sounds great and will last a long time. Cost was 500 for the mufflers, 150 for the cat and 150 for the front Y pipe. Total of 800 plus shipping for worry free exhaust.

Eagle,

Just wondering if you went the clamp or weld route on that system.

Elkabong,

You really have to decide what you want to do and how much you want to spend. After you've decided on those two, you go from there and narrow the choices down. Eagle has the SS Borla's because they will last for years!

I went with the Flowmaster Force II system and I love it, they're aluminized with stainless tips. I paid $400 for the two mufflers and the rear y-pipe. For the combination of performance and money, it was the logical choice for me. The sound is awesome to say the least; the only thing I don't like is that it's too cold to drive with the windows open so I can hear the sweet tone!

Edmond,

Thanks. I was thinking along the same lines. I live in a dry climate (AZ) so I am not all that worried about needing stainless components.

So are you going with Flowmaster?:D

Mine came with the clamps...which you need to line it all up at the tail end. It took a few tries but finally I got them even with the bumper and level with the ground. It sounds great...

I am leaning towards Flowmaster. I am looking for some sites that have mp3's or wav files so I can hear 'em. Do you know of any sites?

I think someone said that Flowmasters site may have sound files but I don't have the web address right now.

I went with the KBDs (rather than Flomasters) for two reasons actually. The first being price, the second reason is that I really dislike the style that the 84 Flomasters have. Dont get me wrong, I REALLY like Flomaster, I have used them in previous vehicles and love the sound. I just hate the downward turned tips. That seems to be my biggest gruff about the 84 'Vettes. I mean really, the rear end is shaped to accomodate straight tips. I think the downward tips just look out of place.

"If da cap fits, let dem wear it"

Is it just me, or did "Flowmaster" change the spelling on thier name. I coulda swore it was Flomaster a few years back. Prolly' just me.

go with the hooker aerochambers , check under "sounds good" in this forum, i tried earlier to reply to this and hit the wrong key, as a result itsa new topic instead of a reply

Elkabong, the system I used on my 84 was the dual exhaust conversion from MAD coupled with the square tipped GT mufflers "if you want to call them that," there are no cats in the system. I noticed a slight loss of power at low end but midrange and top end was great. This system will wake the dead in the noise department. This spring I will change out the GT mufflers to the high output turbo mufflers offered by Corvette Central to tame the system down a little, they have the LT-1 tips and will look great. I don't think you will see much improvement in performance with headers on a stock CF. If you do go with long tube headers you will probibly have to change out your O2 sensor to the three wire heated sensor. The intake manifolds breathing is very limited on the CF without extensive porting and polishing. The other solution is to change out to the X-Ram manifold, check the CF forum for info on the X-Ram. I would be more inclined to improve the intake side of the motor first, before adding headers. 84 CF 91 ZR-1

Right now my immediate need is new mufflers. The passenger side had developed a strange vibration when cold, once the motor heats up the vibration goes away. X-Ram is another story due to the emission laws in AZ. I am still researching what I can and can not do - legally.

Thanks for the input.

I can't find the "sounds good" section. Perhaps I am being thick headed because I have not used all the features of the forum yet. Can you point me in the right direction?

Thanks
