My uncle has a 1962 Red vette. He is the second owner and has had it 21 years. He is currently looking to find out exactly what came on his car when it was new. Does anyone know of a web page where he can go to and input his VIN and find out exactly what came stock on the car? Any info will be helpful.

I am not to sure if any information can be optained by the vin on a C1

Good luck with your search I think thats one of the most asked question of vette is how to I find out what it had, where its been,

C1 VIN's don't have any information in them other than the model year and build sequence number (from which the build date can be derived), and there's no trim tag that shows color/trim information either. You have to look for "clues" in various parts of the car to try and deduce how it was originally configured.

The best publication that gets into that kind of detail and can help you figure it out is the NCRS 1961-62 Corvette Technical Information Manual & Judging Guide, which is available from the NCRS on-line store at www.ncrs.org.

If you lack information on the 62, all you can do is go to the original owner. However there are some tell tail items on the car that you could refer to that may help identify what it is or what it was. The tachometer is the first place to look and check the red line, 5500 would be a hydraulic cammed low HP car. 6500 would be a 340 carb engine or 360 FI car. From there 360`s get unique and several hidden differences would identify this model. A FI clone is hard to identify, but there are ways to do this also. Some things cannot be changed or are present to identify a true 360 FI or the FI clone. Only 1900+ true FI cars were produced and thats why they command such a high price and the reason for so many clones being built. Injected cars are priced considerably higher than the carb cars. A true 62 FI car is very rare.:cool :bar
