Tried to finish my of project of cleaning up the inside of my wheel wells etc.. and got to my last tire to pull off and the security lug nut is all beat up and the tool will not go on it.
Any suggestions to get it off? I was thinking maybe 1 of those gator grip sockets?

Tack or JB Weld a cheap socket to the stripped security lug nut for its final removal and replace all your security lug nuts with regular lug nuts.

Hope this helps . . .

That happened to me once and the only thing I had on hand was a dremel. I went through three disks to cut enough of the nut off to break it apart.

Sometimes you can use a small file to reform ( I just had to do one on my right rear) the grooves in the lugnut, then besure to buy some regular lugnuts to replace those awful security nuts. Good luck.

I just got the nuts off my '98 last week. If they are the same kind of locks(McGuard I think) you can pound a 20MM socket onto them and they will come off very easily.

There are also "special" sockets designed for just this problem. It's like an "easy out" in socket form, just goes over the lugnut, grips it, and off it comes.

Go to a local tire store. They have the tool to solve this problem. I replaced my "security" lug nuts with standard ones after going through this.

After having a 'key' break,I was able to use (ruin) a chisel to split the lock nut; then use a vise grip (TM) pliers to get it off.

Since that day, I am fairly careful with the key and the locks. I will not have the car without locking nuts and will notuse any but McGard. The cheaper ones are trouble in waiting, as Chinese metallurgy is terrible.
