New C4 Owner

I just bought a 1989 C4 5.7 for what I believe is a good deal. I paid $5500 dollars and this car is really cleanand I mean really clean! All original with 96,000 miles, garage kept and no leaks. This is my first Corvette and I love it, and so do my wife and kids. Is there anything special I should do? I asked the guy I bought it from and he is using synthetic oil the last few times. Any thoughts? The only thing wrong with the car is the drivers seat. All three buttons work, but in order for the seat to go back or forward you have to help it along with a push or a shove. You can hear the motor engage but the gears are just making noise. Thanks for your help from a very happy new owner.

I've seen replacement hardward at Mid America that's not too expensive, and the good people on this website has been so helpful to me, I bet someone can tell you how to replace it.

Did you get an papers of previous work that might have been done? I would say maybe a coolant flush, a tune up, and possible service the tranny? That is if it hasn't been done lately. Other then that enjoy.

Congratulations! I have had my 89 for about 1 month now and am really loving it. Sounds like a great deal too! I paid almost 5k for mine but it has 270k miles on it believe it or not....almost 50k on a rebuilt motor and tranny. You will just love the car.

I agree with vetteboy. Get ALL the fluids changed. This way you know when it was done last and can maintain your own records. If you like to work on the car yourself, look for a set (2) of factory service manuals for your year on e-bay. They're worth their weight in gold.
I'd follow the fluid changes with a good tune up ie: wires, plugs, distributor cap etc.

and don't forget to wave.

Potter, I agree to the highest degree with Len.....also you will find that not only do we have a lot of knowledge but we also have a very big sence of humor.... So if you just need a good laugh once in a while click on the comidy thread .....some times it helps

I got my first vette, also an 89, in December. My plan was to hold out until I could afford a C5 but as you now know the C4 is SO MUCH car for the money. I have been doing little things one at a time. Oil and filter change, coolant change, new plugs, serpentine belt, new fuel door and nose emblems, new air filter housing. Got the stuff to service the auto transmission.Power steering and brake fluid soon. Hoses would be a good idea. Take your time and enjoy it.

You need a new track under the seat. When I say new I mean a new used. There are vette salvage yards that have them as well as the various catalogues.

Vette2Vette is where I got a good one for under $100 to powerize my passenger side. It's easy to fix. You are going to bond quickly with your car and if like the rest here nothing is too good or too hard to do for her. After trouble free 20,000 miles I got lost in the effect once again this morning, like it was the first time. Put new juice in everything soon. Wax it, love it, drive the heck out of it.
