I got new front carpet for my baby...my question is this....i have a 73 auto with 80/20 loop carpet...santa delivered it and when i open the box the sheet inside says 1970...i know i will be making minor adjustments to it, so it fits right ...but before i do i just want to see if anybody else has seen this before. im sure there isnt much diffrence from 70 to 73 , any input is greatly appreaciated. Thanks in advance. Chas:bu

carpet

Chas,
if you have a coupe like my 73:
69 to 75 coupes are the same, vinyl interiors use 80/20 loop,
lether delux interiors use cut-pile.
if you have a convertible the 70 carpet is ng,you will need the 71 to 75 set.

i did the entire job in 16 hrs, take your time & you will save the $250 labor charge.

i had to remove the carpet from the drivers side...it restricted the throttle.

Thanks..

BobChad & VetteDude:
Happy Holidays and many thanks for the detailed pictures of your work. We're just about to undertake the same projects on our 74 coupe- the Great Pumkin- and add 82 seats & Simpson belts during the process. Although it all seems pretty straight-forward, we all know it rarely is and the documentation is invaluable.

Thanks to the Corvette Action Center and the `Members of the Board'.

I too have new carpet for the vette, I have been looking into insulation and have found a cheap substitute, sonoflex ceiling tiles, theyre cheap, add sound and heat insulation, and can be installed easily. mike

I installed new carpet in my 73 a few years ago, and like others have said take your time and measure the carpet then make your cuts as needed. As far as using insullation I bought some from Home Depot it came in a a rool and it was silver on one side and black on the other. I just cut it to fit in the floor and Tranny area. It only cost about $15 dollars and it worked out pretty well. I sprayed 3M adhesive to hold the insulation to the floor. Cant remember the name, but it helped to hold the insulation in place when installing the carpet. Hope this toip helps and good luck.

I redid the carpet in my 80 over the summer and used the Reflectix under the carpet.I got the stuff with the juke under it instead of the plastic bubbles as figured it might last longer.I just laid it out and cut where needed and sealed the edges with the aluminum tape. Made an extreme differnce in temperature inside as it gets hot here in the summer.Cost about $20.00 for all of it and didn't take too long to get done and well worth it.

Done! heres some things i learned...

I am real happy with the results....i learned a few things to pass on....the kick panel area to me was the hardest i think to install. i learnd it was easier to install the lower part under the panel and then tuck the side in after the panel is in place....maybe mine was tougher to do after i put in almost 3/8 inch of sub insulation....i had to remove alot of the interior panels but i didnt remove the center counsel...the rear part with the brake lever i did remove, but the front piece i was able to tuck it under...may have gotten lucky there also....i got the piece in place and the first thing that was permanant was the seat belt bolt....then the rest , which i started at the kick panle from there so i could pull it tight and get it proper place....my last tip is the plastic cover for the seat belt and sensor for the seat....be sure when you install the cover....the seat belt and sensor are not under it! or you will have to remove the cover ....this was the biggest mistake i made! it really wasnt a hard job at all....about 6 or seven hours to do...BUT please remember i only did the front half...im not sure i needed the rear.....i will post a pic so you can see the results...chas:w
