Last week, I got a brief drive in an '05 six-speed/Z51 Coupe fitted with the first Flowmaster catback for a C6.
If any of you were on the Hot Rod Power Tour, you may have seen this car. It was the Daytona Sunset Orange Coupe owned by race announcer and car show MC Dave McClelland.
I'd say that Flowmaster has a home run with this new exhaust. First off, it has that great "V8-through-Flowmasters" sound that many Corvetters like. Secondly, the system is a bit louder and more deep-toned than stock, but is not so loud to be juvenile, nor does it have any significant issue with resonance.
The system on McClelland's car has dual, stainless steel outlets, rather than four outlets. In talking with McClelland's son, Kevin, who is Flowmaster's R&D chief, it's not been decided yet if Flowmaster catbacks will be only dual outlet, only four outlets or if the customer will have a choice, of two large or four smaller tips. I'll put my money on Flowmaster offering it both ways.
I'm going to have a second, more lengthy chance to drive this car in a few weeks and I'll also get some chassis dyno numbers at that time. I'm also going to try and evaluate Z-Industries' new C6 calibratioin at the same time. When I do that, I'll post more about this new Flowmaster exhaust.
