I've recently have got a chip in my front window, I had a company try to repair it but its not 100% perfect. I live in Fl. and its the law to have front windows replaced by the ins. free of charge if you have full coverage. So I have the option of replacing it but I'm worried about the seal being broke and not getting the same seal. What do you think?
HI there,
After doing numerous glass replacements on c5, I would say, that if the installer follows manufacturers processes, there will NOT be a problem.
The biggest reason that problems develop, is that people rush, and do not follow repair guidelines.
Please let us know how it goes, c4c5
My Uncle is a window installer at a professional shop here in town. He told me alot of the time if a seal is done properly it is better than the factory seal.
A couple of things to look out for after the windshield is replaced is
*Warped Weather Stripping- This can happen if the sealant hasn't cured propley and the weatherstrip was installed premature.
*Sagging Glass- Again if sealant hasn't cured proplery and the tape was removed premature the window will actually sag pulling the weatherstripping down (These two problems are related most of the time)
*Keep an eye out for quick installation practices. The plastic cowl where your windshield wipers rest has to be removed and 6 out of 10 times shops don't replace all the screws. Make sure your shop does it properly.
*Excess sealant- Throughly inspect inside the car and outside for traces of "Black Gooey stuff" along the windshield/Weatherstripping. And of course make sure there's none of it anywhere else. A thinner or cutter is the only way of removing it (Aside from scraping) and we don't want it on our paint do we. (Most shops are surgical with the sealant so this is not a common problem.)
If your car wasn't so new Id suggest wiping down the dash cleaning out the vent's while the windshield is off. If you have any squeaks or rattles in that area this is also the time to remove them. I use a DuraSeal product (Used by window installers) to bridge between plastic on plastic/metal surfaces to remove the buzzes.
Actually I did my entire dash and for awhile my C4! sounded like a Caddy. But new buzzes always start somewhere Hehehe Gotta get em!
