I just got the engine back in and of course the hood doesn't fit. Evolution gave me some links to new hoods, they all look great and have settled on three. The manufacturers of the hoods specify 2" above stock, 3" above stock etc. All except Ecklers.
In talking to Ecklers they told me to place two 4 3/8" pieces of wood in the drip rails, staight edge between the wood and see if the top of the cleaner is below the wood............it is by 1.5". So one of their hoods is accomadating, actually two of them are. So the question I have is how do you measure what you really need above stock?
I placed a straight edge on the top of the air cleaner nut, a level on top of that and measured from the straight edge to the drip rail and it measures 3.25", so I am assuming I need 3.5" of clearance from the drip rail to the inside surface of the hood, leaving 0.25" of clearance between hood and cleaner.
Now the question is what is the height of the inside of a stock hood to the drip rails. If it is 2" then I need 1.5" more clearance, which gives me a larger selection of hoods.
Anyone know? Thanks.
