new member,144 supercharger question

Hey guys, new to the board but have been reading for awhile. I have an '81 with the origional 66,000 mile 350. Modifications are headers,mallory ignition,polished dual plane intake,gear drive,750 rebuilt q-jet,crane cam single pattern .450/.450 106 LSA,flowmaster 40's. In the process of 2000 stall & 3.73 gears.My question is:I was considering one of the small 144 street chargers. Anyone have any experience installing one of these and what brand. Other questions that come to mind are,fuel pump and psi required, i'm sure the stock mechanical won't do.Timing retard/advance, rich/lean carb adjustment & boost. Also,how difficult is the install? I am pretty good with the wrenches. I was going to go the head route but instead was just going to utilize the 8.2:1 compression.What do I need to know? Thanks-Marc

You can do the install in a weekend. The boost should be around 5-7 pounds, but you can get different ratios for the 144. An electric fuel pump is the only way to go. The only big problem is hood clearance. Going to an L-88 style should fix the problem or some other high rise. You will need and about an extra 4 inch under the hood.

106 LSA? That thing must lope lika crazy. Everything I have read and heard about forced induction is that you want a much wider LSA at least 114 or 116. It seems that with such a tight LSA you would have a lot of overlap which is good for naturally aspirated engines but wastes a lot of the blower's benefits as there is some boost bleed off before the valves shut.

you are correct as a lot of the fuel charge will be blown out the exhaust ports. the carb will need to richened up 10% in the pri and 20% in the secondary for starters. i would start the timing at 28 total and work your way up.
 
One of the things that that does is force all the old burnt gasses out under pressure. This totally clears the camber for all new fresh air/fuel, no burnt gasses left in the camber. NO hot burnt gasses left means nothing but fresh fuel in the camber.
