Hello Everyone I have a 2001 that was taken to a shop because of the engine light that came on. They hooked up the hand held code reader and Po 171 lean and Po 174 lean came up. The car has to get smogged next month for a re reg. and I`m sure these issues will have to be addressed before hand. I was told not to drive it at all until fixed. Can anyone tell me what the problems are and what to do to fix them ? I would really appreciate it ! Thank you, Mark A.

P0171 Fuel Trim System Lean Bank 1

P0174 Fuel Trim System Lean Bank 2

I'll look them up in the Manuel when the market closes,I'll be Bok!~!:thumb

:D

If it is running lean there is a good chance you have an air leak somewhere on the intake system. Do you have an aftermarket air intake and filter? Check the EGR and PCV hoses for leaks....vacuum hose leaks....those will cause the computer to throw those codes. The hoses are getting some age so there is a good chance that is what is causing it.

I agree to double check everything since that would affect BOTH banks.

In the future you can pull all your own codes and post them for us to review. Only the C5 allows you to do that. Can't do it on later Corvettes.

Here is a how-to:

Retreiving & Clearing Codes on a 1997-2004 C5 Corvette - YouTube

As Huskerman said,Check vacuum lines for leaks,I've had to change the short rubber nipple between the TB and PCV on a couple C5's so far,not counting my own.:thumb (The rubber nipple usually cracks on the bottom side,so unless you remove it you might not see it!):thumb:thumb

If you don't find a vacuum leak then your going to need a Diagnostic Scanner and a FP gauge to do any other tests!
I can email you the diagnostic procedures and flow charts from my service program!

PS A plugged fuel filter or failing fuel pump could also throw PO171 and P0174 codes.:thumb

Hello I just wanted to thank everyone who took the time to read my help post. Thanks for all your insight and advice. About 6 months ago the engine light came on as well, and a different repair shop looked up the code and came back and told me that the code read for a o2sensor issue. Now these other codes came up, in which when I brought in last week with the engine light all I was hoping was to find out which o2 sensor was bad so I could get it changed by my mechanic. Oh well, I guess I will have to have him check all of it out and fix whatever problems he finds before smog time. Thanks again. Talk to ya next time ! Mark A.
