1980 turbo L-82
:wHello everyone, I am happy to be part of this excellent site. I have been lucky to have owned 3 Corvettes, a 1963, a 66 427, and in 1986 I bought a turbocharged L 82. I hope to learn more about GM's turbocharging history. I am also interested in the modern Corvette rockets with 500+ hp.

Welcome to the Forum Markali. :w
I wish the L82 that was in my old 1980 Corvette was turbocharged.

Thanks for the welcome, the turbo pushes the car nicely but it had some serious quirks at first. I think the modern turbos are probably way better, I'd like to drive one someday.:beer

Welcome. You've got an interesting car. I didn't know there was a turbo option in 1980. Were many produced?

Hi John, this is one of a few, I don't know how many hit the road, but this forum has a reference to another one, a phase two, which was fuel injected. I have been working on a web site, its not a finished product, but you can see it at markali.com/turbovette, and you can see there, the reference back here. I wish I knew more about this part of GM history.

:w Mark Welcome

Here is a link to a thread in the "Southwest Events Forum" It is a very unique car, kind of like what you have, and a facinating story comes with it. I spent over an hour talking to the guy that restored the car and the history and the GM Reps that guided his restoration..

Here's the LINK esp. read Post #9 ;)

Also I have a photo copy of an article about a 1981V6 Turbo ;) here is a photo of the car..

Turbovette

Hi Bud, thank you for the links. It has been hard to find references to these cars, especially with pictures.
