ok, lets say i have 10k dollars to put into my 1989 vette, thats chump change to someone with the wearwithall to make a viper killer. but give or take 2k thats what i have to work with. it seems the l-98 is a package that is not getting much action in the after market ....market. the turbos are if not non- avail. , so pricey, and somuch in need of alot of custom mods. that without a shop that worked a great deal with these engnes is a bad idea! next i thought about a super charger ( tx to mad- mic ) who gave me alot of good advice. but agian, what was it ? 4k for the charger setup and i still need a moter. my l-98 has 94 k on it and i have a coolent leak on the pass. side down low, where it drips on the cat. and ex. system makeing steam so i cant see what is going on. anyway this just pushes my desire to redo the drive forward a year,. just so you know im very serious about this, know that im selling my 2002 harley fuel injected softail to pay for this work.
i had to decide which toy is the one to keep, hehe! love my vette! ok, hp wanted, id like to be able to do better than the c-5 s stock, somewhere around 400 rwhp with plenty of torque. i know someone is going to say No2 and thats fine, but please give some kind starting place.... haha! besides starting with more cash! thanks all! your staff and everyday owners like me have helped me many many times!......please write me, addy is.....captbane@yahoo.com

Sell it.

Your L98 puts out 240 hp @4000 rpm. You can pick up more horsepower per $$ by moving to another year/engine. For example you could buy another 1989 LT5 that would put out 380 hp or you could buy a 1992 LT1 that puts out 300 hp.

Unless you have a real driving desire to keep your car, it's not worth sinking the $$. If for some reason your car is special for you, then modify it.

I will 2nd that -

Sell your current vette and start shopping for a ZR-1 or a C5 - higher miles models will be closer to budget.

Much less headache than trying to mod your current vette - Unless you are just really attached to it(coolant leak and all) :)

I don't know how far you are from Bohemia, NY but this guy knows what he's doing. He's been drag racing for many years. His shop produces some outrageous small block Chevy's. How's this 434 ci SBC making 595 HP and over 500 ft lbs of torque. It can be yours for $9,000. Of course you would have to beef up your tranny and drive train most likely. Here is his site. www.ultrastreet.net

Or another place to checkout would be Bill Mitchell Racing. They can put together a 427 SBC that mkes over 500 HP for around the same price. The link to his shop is www.theengineshop.com

Maybe this will give you some ideas but if I were going to drop that kind of $$$ I think I would go with more than just anybodies engine shop.
