I was told that it wouldn't be a wise choice to use coated headers during a newly built motors break in period. They said that the more than normal heat during the break in period could cause damage to the coating.

Any truth to this?

Edmond, have you been looking for headers? I also have an 88 and I can't find any company that has headers for my car except the black painted ones. I spoke to a technician at Hooker and he said the black ones will rust much quicker than the ceramic ones. I can find the short ones but apparently no one has the long tube in ceramic or chrome or whatever. If I go to the trouble and expense of this I'd rather not have painted tubes and have them rust out in a couple of yrs. I have been quote as much as $1600 for custom made one but thats too much.

TPIS makes them, they're widely touted as one of (if not the) best headers out there on the market. They're $750, pricey but they're good headers. Mad Mic runs them as well as many members here.

There is a place called American Coating that will coat your long tube headers for $180 or shorties for $150. I've seen the Hookers for $399 at Jegs so I guess it'd be in the $600 range to get your Hookers coated by American Coating. I'll post a website when I find it.
