New plug wires worth +15hp&+17ftlb?

Article in Chevy High Performance using a late model pickup w/ 5.3L Gen III V8 shows on a dyno these gains by switching out OEM AC Delco wires for Granatelli wires ($160+!). Gains traced to 950 ohms per wire OEM vs .5 ohm Granatelli. Yikes , there must be a catch.

Inirenberg,

Sounds good to me, altho they a a tad pricey. I thunk you can get MSD's for $72.00, but am not sure of the res./foot. .5ohm's will definitely get the spark there. Wonder what color those Granitelli's are. I like to stay w/black, if at all possible.

That's what ... roughly a 5%-7% increase ... pretty astonishing to get that from simply a different design of wire. I suspect the claim ain't as straight-forward as it seems. Are they comparing theirs to brand new AC Delco wires? ... or old used wires? If old wires, how many guinea pigs did they select for before they found a truck with bad wires? ... "hey, ain't there a guy over in accounts payable with a crappy running pu?" ... aye, there's the rub! Believe this ... if you could get just a One Percent increase for $160 the racers'd be all over it ... little doubt Robbie Gordon would've paid $10K for six or eight hp past Sunday/Watkins Glen.

Plug wire resistance is usually so many ohms per length of wire. I'm not sure, but the guinea pig pu motor may've been LSx motor ... having multiple coils and VERY short wires.

Based on these claims, I sold my double wide and the motor from my car and bought 50 sets of wires with the money. 50 sets of wires @ 15 Hp per set = 750 HP, and they're still in the boxes I stored under the hood where the motor used to be.

I must have a problem with the battery tho, cause now I keep turning the key and nothin' happens. ;)

Sounds logical to me. I just went through my new Mid-America book and can get nearly an extra 2-3 hundred HP by merely ordering all of there bolt ons. A favorite is my air cleaner where a "wopping" {is that a word} 20 extra HP came up if your using a highly promoted unnamed company. The reality of this is that I have not used an air cleaner on my 62 since probably 1964. Those FI air cleaners are a ***** to take on and off changing an occasional spark plug set and i`m missing out on all that so called user added HP. Do you really think I can get up to my goal to the HP of the new ZO6 505 HP? :L

Not unless you use "The Tornado" - stack ten or twenty of those babies together and you could run Pro Stock! :D ;LOL

Thanks John, I knew you would come through for me. ;LOL I just ordered a dozen. I think I can get the necessary clearance from my air horn if I "chop" a hole in the top of my fender with a Sawsall. And then be on my way to the Nationals. Look out Pro Stockers, Wallys back in town.! :L
