84 Z51 auto R.I.P. 89 black roadster SOLD
I bought a set of Yokohama AVID V4S tires for my '84 (Z51 w/ 9.5" wheels front and rear), P255/50-VR16...127 bucks each from tirerack.com. I'm told this is a pretty new tire, came out about 6 months ago. It has a treadwear rating of 500 (250-300 is average for this size), and traction rating of AA (highest). These things are VERY nice for the price. They stick incredibly well, and cruise very nicely on the highway. The "road-rut-wandering" isn't nearly as bad as the Remingtons that were on it.

Just FIY.

UTOG ratings are a guide (not really a perfect one) of wear and such across manufacturers. They do serve as a gross indicator though, as I use them as such. I know U know this.:)

Thanks for the post and updates, as you will, for us tire shoppers.

I also just put the Yokohama Avid V4S on my 1985 Z51. These new tires handle very well and are so quiet. I was running Goodyear Eagle HP Ultra Plus before mounting these ties. The Goodyear’s had a hop that not even a number of balancing attempts with the Hunter machine could deal with. They were super noisy and bounced over bumps and in the corners. I recently drove to the Tire Rack warehouse in South Bend and they did the install for $607.00. It is a great tire at a good price. I would definitely purchase these tires again.
