I am looking at becoming a member of the Callaway owners group and after a search of this portion of the site, did not see what type of 6-speed transmission was used in the 1991 TT cars.

I probably just missed it. Anyway, was it the same ZF transmission as the ZR1?

Thanks,
HoldHard

Yeap, same ZF6 trans as in the C4's.

Buy one.. you won't be disappointed :)

ZF6.... Cool

Out..Friggin...Standing

Thanks,

Good deal!!! Welcome to the :CAC (and hopefully Callaway ownership soon:) )

Eric is right - same ZF6 as used in the other C4's - the 89-91 B2K's (Twin Turbo's) all were standard with that transmission.
The 87 & 88 B2K's were Doug Nash 4+3's - in 88, An automatic was also offered as a $4500 dollar option - this was no 700r4 either - it was a Turbo 400 with an external overdrive added to the tail. 2 of the 87's were also fitted with automatics and carried late "build numbers"

Again - Welcome , Do you have a Callaway in mind already?????? :m

Yes. It's a '91 TT build number 53 located in Denver. I'm flying out tomorrow morning to check it out. It's Medium Quasar Blue with the Aero body, both tops and 18k miles.

Look promising, but the weather might prevent a test drive. Per the current owner, "it's never seen rain".

Hopefully, the weather will cooperate and I can get a test drive in.

89x2,

Well the weather was amazing. The airline announced the local temperature of 44 degrees and I thought "Crap, I'm gonna freeze my butt off" but the mile high altitude and bright sunshine cured all that. The goosebumps I had were NOT from the chill in the air.

I looked over the car for almost an hour, top to bottom, interior, underneath and engine compartment. The only thing was a stone hit on the left driving light lense had made an impact mark and cracked it very slightly. You had to be right down on the ground and staring at the lense to see it.

Next, the owner fired it up. He told me he was very particular about starting it, letting the starter motor crank and then shutting off the key before the engine fired. He indicated that he does this to make sure oil is in the turbos. After he started it, he let it sit and warm up.

Now it was time for the test drive. The owner started out first, pulling onto a fairly large highway and punched it , smoothly shifting into second, then third and then fourth. Can you say torque? Oh Yeah. This was as fast as my "other" dream car that I once owned, a 1968 Mustang that has a 428 cubic inch CobraJet engine. (Ok, Ok I couldn't afford a Vette or the insurance on a Vette at the time, so don't think badly of me because I owned a Mudstain twenty-five years ago...).

Now it was my turn to get behind the wheel. Getting in was a bit different than my C5, but manageable. I get used to the shifter and gear arrangements and then pull back out. We hit the same highway, but this time going back the opposite way. Not being familiar with the roads, the owner says "You are going to loose the right two lanes just ahead". The bad news was there was no immediate opening in the remaining left lane, except about 1/8 of a mile ahead. Downshifted to third and stabbed the pedal. Holy crap Batman, this thing went from 50 to 90 in about 3 seconds. Cool.

Went back to the house and let the owner pull it back into the driveway (very high curb and no "lowering" at the driveway entrance). Went in and discussed numbers and came to a meeting of the minds.

Paperwork was next and that was wrapped up with a deposit. #53 has a new home.

Now, all I have to do is get it from Denver to Detroit........ oh, and send along the rest of the money.

Way cool car. The color almost matches the '68 CobraJet from years past. Now I understand why you all rave about yours.....

Entertaining suggestions for an enclosed car carrier to get the car home. Anybody here recommend a company that they have used? I think that question might get more attention if I start a separate thread.

Oh, yes, it was a very cool weekend....... Now the waiting begins!!

That is a great tale :D I am sure the owner was a bit nervous although, he wanted you to see the potential at the same time - Glad you were able to come to terms on this one as it is a beautiful (and often overlooked) color :beer

p.s. respect the nose on the aerobody - it is less than forgiving :eek
