Hello Everyone,
I'm new to the vett world, just picked a 77 L48 up this year, but was only able to see it for 2 weeks while I was home on R&R leave from the cat-box also known as Kuwait. Things looked pretty good on it, needs work, but thats why I bought it.My question is that when I get back I'll be dropping a engine in it. Its a long block with Dart Performance heads. Its rated at 350Hp and 389ft. lbs Torque. What would be a good intake and carb combination for this. Any and all help or ideas with rebuilding this car would be helpful.
Thanks for the help!
SGT Kirk

Welcome aboard!! I have had fantastic luck with the Edelbrock intake and carb combination on my small block chevys; particularly their performer series. They seem to be out of the box ready to go. I run their 600 cfm performer square bore carb. With that type of horsepower you'll probably be looking at their 750 -800 cfm carb combination. However, I am not much of a 'tuner' of these things so the other guys may recommend something different that offers more set-up options.

I would say the usual Vette stuff will probably need your attention; lower ball joints, brakes...did I mention brakes?..man those are always a nightmare on these cars, and the rear end components...usually the u-joints. My old 'heap' has 96k miles on her and nothing...and I mean nothing...was ever changed on the old girl! Heck, if it could be possible..I'd say the original air is still in the tires LOL.

Sounds like you're still overseas? Be safe..God bless you..and that Vette is going to be worth it when you get back!

I know it's lame, but....

:upthumbs

Have to agree with everything 76 said..... RPM Air Gap with a 750 Perf and you'll have great luck. On my temporary replacement small block that has now cost more than a real engine, I went with a Holley because while on the dyno it was simply more responsive - even if it was only negligibly stronger. I have had lots of fun with that thing - keep considering putting back on the Edelbrock to get over the need to mess with the Holley every month or so....

Kirk,

Welcome! Although I have no answers at all to your questions, I want to wish you a warm welcome and a million thanks for what you and so many other Americans are doing for the rest of us!:pat

Hey there! I also purchased a 1977 t-top three years ago. It is still on stands in my garage w/a cover on it. I have to wait till I finish building our house to start it. I am really looking forward to starting on it. It hasn't even been driven for 15 years, it was sitting in an airplane hangar in Canada. All in all it is in oreaay good shape, considering. God bless and take care, I know what it is like over there. I am in the oil business and am in the Middle East from time to time. I am in Venezuela right now. Best of luck with your vette.
