Just bought an 08 Z06. My friend who does ProChargers and Nitros tells me the Z06 has cast pistons and the top ring is only 6mm from the top. Can anyone confirm this information? I want to procharge but it will have to be very low boost if this is true.

Any help would be appreciated.

you better change to forged pistons and lower the CR if you want any kind of boost

The LS7 has cast pistons.

As for the location of the top ring, I don't know the exact distance but 6mm sounds right. Contemporary engine design is to reduce crevice volume in the interest of low exhaust emissions. Moving the ring up does that.

On an LS7, I do not recommend a supercharger because the compression ratio of that engine is too high to use a blower system which generates any significant power increase.

If you really want more power from the LS7, I'd look at engine mods that leave the engine atmospheric. Katech is a good source for that.

yes warren and the guys at katech will get you what you want as a friend has a katech ZO-6

HI there,
The correct classification of these pistons are 'hypereutectic' which means high silicon alloy.
They are still a cast type of process from Mahle.
However, due to the high silicon content, are stronger than normal cast low silicon pistons.
They are NOT engineered for forced induction, at all, in any way.

I think I'm still going with the ProCharger and keep the boost low and do meth inhection. If it breaks I'll fix it.

Procharger supercharger

Black Moon, Did you install the procharger supercharger? If so, how's it working out, the pros & cons?

Holding off. Did CAI, headers, x pipe and tune. Car runs great. May sell it and buy an 06 Procharged C6 coupe. I'm tired of the 6 speed and love the paddle shift cars.
