What a great day it was today...

I ventured out to a local Chevy dealer that has a large selection of new and used Corvettes. I wanted to test drive a ‘95 or ‘96 six-speed vert.

I had always wanted a C4 convertible, but have always wound up with a coupe. I love the looks of the C4 verts, and I know the C4s pretty well, so I wanted to test the waters.

When we arrived at the dealer, the salesman who had sold me the ‘94 six-speed coupe I had had was working. This was great, I didn’t have to go through the rigmarole of the car salesman come-ons. I told him that I was considering a vert and that I was wanting to take one out for a test drive. He got the keys to a Arctic White vert, put the top down, and said “just bring ‘er back in about 25 minutes.” I was in seventh heaven! The car was beautiful! The sun was shinning! I had 25 minutes to drive it! I knew helping the old lady across the street was going to bring me good karma!

I was a good boy with it for the first 15 minutes as I wanted to get familiar with the car, then, I started to wonder about the go power of the LT1 compared to my LT4. It has been five years since I’ve driven an LT1 (I traded my ‘94 for the LT4) and I had honestly forgotten how the LT1’s run.

Well, as I hit the go pedal, I felt like a kid who had just lost his sparkley helium balloon. The LT1 felt like it was standing still compared to my LT4 if I would have performed the same action in it. I was amazed at the power difference between the two engines. I have gotten used to the go-go of the LT4 and have taken it for granted. These LT4s are FAST in their stock form! Nevertheless, the LT1 is a great engine, I’ve owned two since ‘93, I’m not trying to knock our LT1 brethren.

I can only imagine the thrill LT-5 and Z06 owners must have when they press the go pedal. I would almost hate to drive either now because I’d hate to loose another sparkley helium balloon.

Hey, B. When the time comes around for water pump and opti replacement, put in the hot cam. It 'ups' the fun factor again over the stock LT4. The stock programming works just fine with my setup. Try it, you'll like it!

wx briefer,

The LT4 hot cam sounds nice, I’ve read nothing but positive comments about it on this forum so far. That is true, a good time to consider dropping it in would be when the opti and water pump are spent (hopefully that will be further in the future of course).

I gotta tell you my last Z06 experience.

Not too long ago I was on my way to work one morning and I was sitting in a line at a light that leads to the on-ramp to the freeway. I was several cars back and couldn’t see that there was a yellow Z06 at the front of the line.

The light turned green and I heard a high pitch hollar, next thing I see is a yellow streak screaming down the onramp sweep. I was dumbfounded as to how fast that thing moved out and disappeared down the highway. The Z06 driver put on a great show, I know everyone in the dual turn lane saw him take off, it was great advertising for Americas’ Sports Car.
