Aston Martin has made an immediate impression on the FIA GT Championship after a stunning lap from David Brabham gave the team pole position for its first race in front of the British fans.
The Crash.net columnist produced a stunning lap of 1min 15.792secs during the opening qualifying session to lead a one-two for the Prodrive run team after Dutchman Peter Kox joined Brabham on the front row.
"Today was very good, it surprised me slightly how fast we were," Brabham said afterwards. "The lap felt good and the guys have done a great job with the car. We've made some changes and everything has come together. With Peter second it's great for the team and it is a great team result."
Behind the two Aston Martins, the Vitaphone Maserati of Thomas Biagi and Fabio Babini will launch its challenge for a third straight podium finish from the second row of the grid alongside the Corvette of Bert Longin, Anthony Kumpen and Mike Hezemans.
Row three will be an all Ferrari affair with Fabrizio Gollin and Gabriele Gardel in the Larbre Competition 550 Maranello and the Russian Age Ferrari setting exactly the same time, the #11 taking fifth after setting the lap first.
In GT2, Marc Lieb and Mark Rockenfeller clinched pole position for the GruppeM team with Emmanuel Collard and Tim Sugden overcoming problems in the first session to take second, with the LNT TVR third.
The Balfe Motorsport Mosler was again the lead runner in G2 and an impressive 17th overall.
