No 525-hp Z06

When the Z06 version of the new Chevrolet Corvette goes on sale this October, we know a 7.0-liter V8 will be under the hood pumping out a now certified 505 hp (vs. the 500 hp previously reported).

What we’re also told is that, unlike the 2002-2004 C5 Z06s that picked up 20 hp over previous years’ Z06 models (thanks to a new catalyst and a freer-flowing exhaust system), we shouldn’t hold our breath for a similar power upgrade in Z06s in a few years.

“Next year there will not be a 520- or 525-hp version of this car,” said Tadge Juechter, assistant chief engineer.

“We don’t have any tricks left,” added Corvette chief engineer Dave Hill.

Back on track

Bugatti’s Veyron supercar, tentatively scheduled for delivery a few months from now, achieved a top speed of 248.5 mph on a test track near parent company Volkswagen’s Wolfsburg headquarters.

The speed mark for the 8.0-liter, 987-hp 16-cylinder car approaches the 252-mph top speed Bugatti originally promised for the much-delayed two-seater; the number was cut to 218 mph a year ago due to concerns about high-speed stability and tire wear.

Coming from a Corvette engineer, I just don't believe him.:D

I agree with Edmond, once again!!! :) Although, IF it is true, that's scary!:ugh

Be scared, very scared.:L:L:L

I mean, we're talking about a team that can get more than 400 HP out of a 350 that is 50 state emissions legal and that passes as a low emissions vehicle in the C5 Z06. No more tricks with the 427? I just don't believe him.:D

With the price expected according to Corvette Fever the Z06 will be in the $75 to 85K i dont think there will be a need for more HP for a while.

Honestly, how many Z06's would GM expect to sell at $75k to $85k? I don't believe for a second that this car will be $75k.

As to squeaking out the extra HP, it will stay at 500hp for a while.

Yeah, right.

Maybe someone should introduce Dave to the parts department. ;)

Gotta love those big blocks. :gap

Hmmmmm......now if we plunk the RamJet Fuel Injection on there, tweak things a bit more, I bet we can hit 750hp. :beer

First year sales are a given..

Second year too I'd say..

Third year..power increase...either with pcm upgrade and or cam swap from the factory..

4th year? DSG tranny..

To me..I'd rather see this new tranny hooked up with the 505 hp and I'd be tempted to buy. HP increases are easy for us to add w/a tuner. (although with 505 hp...I might not even bother) Thats a huge amount of power for a 3200 lb car.

The warranty to keep intact is a nice feature too......

That reminds me of what everyone says about their motor when you ask "is it stock?" and they allways say "yes, box stock!".;LOL From my point of view 505 hp is plenty, is it the end point? I seriously doubt it, technology marchs on all the time. Tom:D

That's a good point. Are you thinking what I'm thinking in terms of them not seeing a need to increase the power if the vehicle is selling well?

This time, instead of being reactive, they should be proactive in their development.:D
